๐ฅ Fire Safety Reminder
With the warm weather and increasingly dry summer conditions, the risk of wildfire is elevated across Newfoundland and Labrador. A single unattended fire or stray ember can spread quickly, threatening homes, property, and our natural environment.
Residents are reminded that during the Provincial Forest Fire Season, a Permit to Burn is required through NL Forestry for the burning of brush, vegetation, wood, and paper products. These permits are free of charge and are automatically suspended whenever the Fire Hazard Rating reaches High, Very High, or Extreme.
Within the Town of Holyrood, an Open Air Fire Permit from the Holyrood Fire Department is also required for the burning of brush and other approved materials.
Permits can be obtained by contacting the Holyrood Fire Department at 709-229-7278 or by emailing [email protected]. Provincial permits do not replace municipal requirements.
Before lighting any outdoor fire, always check the daily Fire Hazard Map and ensure conditions are safe. Even with valid permits, fires must never be left unattended and should be fully extinguished before leaving the area. By taking a few extra precautions and following permit requirements, we can all do our part to help protect Holyrood and the beautiful forests that surround our community.
