Something new is standing tall in Bright.

Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life has opened its Tower of Goats Discovery Trail, and at the centre of it all is Canada's first Goat Tower. Rising 28 feet above the pastures, it's one of only seven goat towers in the world, and the only one anywhere to feature a hand-painted mural.

The self-guided trail winds through 13 interactive stops, past gardens, a pollinator pathway, and peaceful observation zones where Mini Highland cattle, donkeys, goats, and alpacas graze in their pastures.

"The Goat Tower reflects our commitment to innovation in agriculture and rural tourism," said Cheryl Haskett, CEO of Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life. "It brings together animal welfare, art, and education in a way that feels joyful, elevated, and deeply connected to the land."

Nestled between Waterloo Region and Oxford County on an 85-acre, third-generation farm in Bright, this is the kind of place that reminds you why rural Ontario is worth the drive.

Good news for small businesses across Ontario.

The province is investing an additional $5 million to expand the Digital Competence Centre, a provincewide initiative delivered in partnership with the Ontario Centre of Innovation to help nearly 450 businesses adopt digital tools, modernize operations, and improve productivity.

"Our government is making targeted investments to help small businesses succeed in a rapidly evolving digital economy," said Nina Tangri, Associate Minister of Small Business. "By expanding the Digital Competence Centre, we are giving Ontario entrepreneurs the tools, resources and expertise they need to compete and succeed in today's increasingly competitive marketplace."

Ontario businesses can access funding through three streams:

The Digital Modernization and Adoption Plan provides a matched grant of up to $15,000 to help businesses plan for technology investments. Companies that complete a DMAP project are eligible for the Technology Demonstration Program, which includes a grant of up to $50,000 to match private investment in new technologies. Eligible small retailers with 50 or fewer employees can access the Retail Modernization Project Grant — a matched grant of up to $5,000 for tools like point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, cybersecurity supports, and AI tools.

Since its launch in 2022, the program has provided more than 800 grants, expected to generate up to $600 million in increased sales revenue and support approximately 3,000 jobs across Ontario.

Oxford County is working on something that will shape the region for decades to come — and they want to hear from you.

Oxford County has launched a New Official Plan Project, beginning with a community visioning phase. The Official Plan is the document that guides all development across all lands in Oxford County, balancing social and economic needs with the preservation of agricultural lands and natural spaces. The current plan is over 30 years old. This is the opportunity to take a fresh look at what Oxford County's local priorities should be.

The first phase of engagement focuses on one question: what is your vision for a new Official Plan?

Four in-person workshops are coming up across the region:

Tuesday, June 16 — Innerkip Community Centre, East Zorra-Tavistock (1:00–3:00 pm)
Wednesday, June 17 — Mt. Elgin Community Centre, South-West Oxford (6:30–8:30 pm)
Tuesday, June 23 — Altadore Hall, South Gate Centre, Woodstock (1:30–3:30 pm)
Thursday, June 25 — Embro Community Centre, Zorra (6:30–8:30 pm)

Please RSVP to help make these workshops a success. You can also complete the Community Visioning Survey online.

Algro Farms Inc. is growing something special in Norwich — and it starts with a family story.

Founder Bas Melissant grew his first onions at 17 in the Netherlands, building decades of experience as a contractor, buyer, international salesman and grower before a 2010 vacation to Ontario changed everything. The Norwich area offered fertile farmland, quality labour, and a community that felt like home.

"I guess that's where she fell in love and so did we," said Wilmer Melissant, Bas' son and now operations and sales manager, recalling the moment the family decided to put down roots.

Bas purchased the home farm on Maple Dell Road in 2011 and put the first crop of specialty onions in the ground in spring 2012. Today, Algro farms 400 acres of shallots, cipollini, white, red and gold pearls, and red onions — grown, graded, packed and shipped year-round to wholesalers across North America.

It's a long way from one barn and a hand-sealing line. And they're just getting started.

In Rural Oxford, shovel-ready commercial and industrial space is rare. This one checks every box.

A 24,000-square-foot facility on Highway 59 in Hickson is available — and what makes it exceptional is what's already in place.

Commercial/industrial zoning, 3-phase power, radiant heat, a loading dock capable of servicing semi-trucks, 20-foot ceilings, and the flexibility to accommodate up to four individual tenants. With land capacity to build an additional 20,000 square feet on top of that, the growth potential here is real.

"This property is the closest to shovel ready you'll find in Rural Oxford." — Ronda Stewart, Rural Oxford Economic Development Corporation

Ten minutes from Woodstock and the 401/403. Twenty from Stratford. Thirty from both London and Waterloo. Location, infrastructure, and flexibility — all in one.
