What do wildfire season and patio season have in common?

They both depend on conditions, and they don’t start on the same date every year.

Wildfire season isn't a made-up phrase or scare tactic, it’s a way to describe a time of year wildfires are more likely due to weather and fuel conditions.

The same way patio season is the time of year when conditions line up to make you crave a cool drink outside with your friends.

Calling it a “season” isn’t dramatic, it’s an accurate way of naming when the risk is real.

You can find this, and other terms, in the Canadian Wildland Fire glossary: https://glossary.ciffc.ca/

🚨 Emergency Preparedness Week 🚨

As our weekends start to get busier, let’s look out for visitors, and each other.

With tourism picking up, more visitors are enjoying Invermere. In an emergency, tourists may not know our local geography, services, or emergency procedures. As locals, a little guidance can make a big difference.

Here’s how you can help if an emergency happens while visitors are in town:
✅ Share clear directions using well-known landmarks (not just street names)
✅ Encourage them to follow local alerts and instructions from emergency personnel. Direct them to our page and our Website.
✅ Point them to safe places like community facilities (Columbia Valley Centre), or higher ground.
✅ When calling 9‑1‑1, be specific about locations and mention if visitors are involved and seem unsure or lost
✅ Stay calm and patient; emergencies can be especially stressful when you’re far from home

Tourism is part of what makes Invermere vibrant. Being prepared and helping others navigate an emergency keeps our whole community safer.

🔥 Join us this Saturday for the Invermere Fire Department Open House!
