Meet “Special Agent M” aka “M” for short

This boy is one handsome Canadian Inuit Dog, and just so happens to be one of our current lead dogs along with his equally sweet brother “Special Agent Q”.
At 10 years old, M is smart, gentle, and still convinced he's the most charming dog around (the lady dogs seem to agree).
After years of leading expeditions, we think it's time for M and Q to enjoy a well-earned retirement. We're hoping to find a home with people who know and love the breed and can spoil them with endless attention, long walks and runs, regular brushing sessions, and plenty of snuggles.

Think you might be the right match? Reach out—we'd love to chat.

Polar Bears are undeniably incredible animals - powerful, fearless, and surprisingly curious.

We often are asked about polar bear safety on expedition. And while not all areas of Nunavut have high polar bear traffic, the reality is that they can be around .

We always carry suitable polar bear protection on our expeditions but more importantly our guides receive excellent training on encounter prevention, safety and the proper use of appropriate deterrents... on some of our trips we even bring along a bear dog or two and depending on the area we might even bring a bear fence for extra measure.

It's an incredible privilege to live work and play around these awe inspiring animals and If you are lucky enough to see one - hopefully at a safe distance - you’ll understand. Every encounter feels special.

Who else is counting down the days until winter is back?
After such a hot and dry summer here in the North, and with the temps starting to finally cool off again we can’t help but start dreaming of the colder days to come.

Iqaluit means "fish" (plural) and the Iqaluit river that flows beside the town is one of the many things we love about this place. It brings the community an abundance of food and enjoyment and It's one of our favourite areas to hike.

Of course it's not the only place to hike... and just as each northern community is unique, and Iqaluit is no exception.
With rolling hills, river valleys, rocky ravines and ocean vistas that change dramatically with every tide, it's never boring!

Every time we head out for a hike, we find new reasons to appreciate this beautiful place. It’s the sum total of all the little details that capture our hearts and make it a special place!

Come hike with us and learn about Iqaluit!

People often ask us, “What do the dogs do all summer?”
The short answer? They take a well-earned vacation.
They join us on hikes, runs & camping trips. They splash in every puddle they can find, and eat random things on the land (pretty sure it’s Arctic Hare droppings…maybe the occasional lemming).

On hot days they nap in the shade of their dog house, or wrestle with their buddies. And sometimes they roll in things we wish they wouldn’t… Dogs… we love them.

We’d like you to meet one of our favorites... our fun loving, funny and multi-talented guide Vik!

Vik hails from the east coast of Canada but has spent the last 13 years living and playing in the place she loves most... the Arctic.

When you meet Vik there’s no mistaking it… she loves life, she loves people and she loooooves to have a great time with folks on the land.

Vik guides our hiking, dog sledding and skiing trips, and she even acts as our favorite chef. She’s a strong and competent guide who brings a contagious smile everywhere she goes.

We're stoked to be back out on Frobisher bay enjoying the frigid but beautiful ocean playground.

This time of year we hope to see some curious wildlife, seasonal nesters and of course we’ll check out some of our favorite locations only accessible by boat at this time of the year.

Full day and Half day guided options are available but you can also reach out if you're looking for specific skills training.

Happy Paddling!!!

One of our favourite parts of photography and filmmaking is the people we get to meet along the way.

Several years ago, we spent a day with Andrew Qappik in Pangnirtung, capturing photos and video while he worked on his printmaking. Watching his artwork come to life was pretty incredible—and we even got a behind-the-scenes look at the process.
If you're ever in Pangnirtung, be sure to check out his beautiful prints.

Thanks, Andrew, for sharing your time, stories, and talent with us!

Some places are still truly wild.
Located outside of the High Arctic community of Pond Inlet, Sirmilik National Park is one of Canada’s most remote national parks. In some seasons, fewer than a dozen visitors set foot here, leaving it as pristine today as it has been for generations.

This summer, NorthWinds is excited to offer a guided hiking expedition into the Oliver Sound region of the park—an area that remains off the beaten path even by Sirmilik standards.

Stunning mountains, ancient glaciers, Arctic wildlife, and days spent exploring a landscape few people will ever experience await those willing to venture north.
If you’re looking for a genuine Arctic adventure this summer, this is it.
Space is limited. Send us a DM or email for trip details and availability.
