Inuit Heritage Trust thanks the Qikiqtani Inuit Association for its additional $5 million investment in the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre. Overall, QIA has given $10 million to assist in the building of the centre, which will provide space for cultural learning, exhibitions, programs, research and partnerships across Nunavut.

We're working on a series of maps with traditional place names for the Panniqtuuq area. Because there are about 1500 names for this large area we need to produce 5 maps. Also on this map we'll be adding photos wherever we can find room. This one was taken aboard the government patrol ship Diana in 1897. Many of the Inuit from the Uummanarjuaq whaling station came aboard and were photographed. The maps will be printed on a tearproof paper and distributed for free in Pang when we're done.

We're in Salliq (Coral Harbour) this week to share some beautiful maps with traditional place names. This map extends north to Naujaat showing travel routes between the communities. We held a feast to celebrate the distribution of these "sturdy" waterproof/tearproof maps and will be meeting with the HTO to talk about what's needed to have these traditional names recognized by Governments - so that they endure long into the future.
