On June 23, 2026, Languages Commissioner Karliin Aariak met with the Rankin Inlet municipal council in the company of the Honourable Brian Koonoo and the Honourable Annie Tattuinee.

The meeting provided an opportunity to present the role of the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut, to highlight the language rights of Nunavummiut, and to speak about the community event taking place that evening.

On that occasion, the 2026 Nunavut Languages Commissioner’s Special Award for the Promotion of Official Languages will be presented to two distinguished members of the community tonight at Siniktarvik Hotel.

IMPORTANT VENUE UPDATE – THE COMMUNITY EVENT WILL NOW TAKE PLACE AT THE SINIKTARVIK HOTEL.

The Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut invites community members to join us tomorrow, June 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Siniktarvik Hotel for an evening of community engagement and discussion.

The event will include a presentation on the role and mandate of the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut, information on the language rights of Nunavummiut, and light refreshments for those in attendance.

The evening will also include remarks from the Honourable Brian Koonoo, Minister of Culture and Heritage, Minister of Environment, Minister of Languages, and Minister responsible for Energy, as well as the Honourable Annie Tattuinee, MLA for Rankin Inlet South and Minister of Human Resources.

As part of the event, the Office will present the 2026 Nunavut Languages Commissioner’s Special Award for the Promotion of Official Languages to two respected members of the Rankin Inlet community, in recognition of their contribution to the promotion, visibility, and vitality of languages in their community. Le Bureau du commissaire aux langues du Nunavut invite les membres de la communauté à se joindre à nous demain, le 23 juin 2026, de 18 h à 21 h, au Siniktarvik Hotel, pour une soirée d’échange et de discussion communautaire.

L’événement comprendra une présentation sur le rôle et le mandat du Bureau du commissaire aux langues du Nunavut, de l’information sur les droits linguistiques des Nunavummiut, ainsi que de légères collations pour les personnes présentes.

La soirée comprendra également des allocutions de l’honorable Brian Koonoo, ministre de la Culture et du Patrimoine, ministre de l’Environnement, ministre des Langues et ministre responsable de l’Énergie, ainsi que de l’honorable Annie Tattuinee, députée de Rankin Inlet South et ministre des Ressources humaines.

Dans le cadre de l’événement, le Bureau remettra le Prix spécial 2026 du commissaire aux langues du Nunavut pour la promotion des langues officielles à deux membres respectés de la communauté de Rankin Inlet, en reconnaissance de leur contribution à la promotion, à la visibilité et à la vitalité des langues dans leur communauté. National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut recognizes the strength, presence, and importance of Inuktut.
Inuktut lives in homes, schools, workplaces, institutions, communities, and on the land. It lives through Elders, youth, families, and all Nunavummiut who speak it, learn it, and pass it on.
Language rights are protected by law in Nunavut.
If you believe your language rights have not been respected, you can contact our Office or submit a complaint.

L’inuktut vit dans les foyers, les écoles, les milieux de travail, les institutions, les communautés et sur le territoire. Il vit à travers les personnes ainées, les jeunes, les familles et tous les Nunavois et Nunavoises qui le parlent, l’apprennent et le transmettent.

Languages Commissioner Karliin Aariak met with Minister of Culture and Heritage The Honourable Brian Koonoo as part of a first formal meeting since the beginning of her second term, which began on April 8, 2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the priorities of the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut, strengthen institutional relations, and present the upcoming community visit to Rankin Inlet, scheduled for June 22 to 24, 2026.

During the discussion, the Commissioner also outlined the June 23 community event, during which the Office will present recognition awards to two respected members of the Rankin Inlet community in honour of their contribution to the promotion, visibility, and vitality of languages in their community. Minister Brian Koonoo confirmed that he will be in Rankin Inlet as part of this visit and will take part in the community event on June 23.

La commissaire aux langues Karliin Aariak a rencontré le ministre de la Culture et du Patrimoine, L’honorable Brian Koonoo dans le cadre d'une première rencontre officielle depuis le début de son second mandat, entamé le 8 avril 2026.

La rencontre a été l'occasion de discuter des priorités du Commissariat aux langues du Nunavut, de renforcer les relations institutionnelles et de présenter la prochaine visite communautaire à Rankin Inlet, prévue du 22 au 24 juin 2026.

Le Nunavoix et CFRT 107.3, édités par l'AFN - Association des francophones du Nunavut, ont eu l’honneur de se voir remettre le 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑥 𝑆𝑝𝑒́𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 2026 𝑑𝑢 𝐵𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑢 𝑙𝑎 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑢𝑥 𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑑𝑢 𝑁𝑢𝑛𝑎𝑣𝑢𝑡, Karliin Ariaak, à l’occasion d’une magnifique soirée de gala marquant les 45 ans de l’organisation francophone, ce samedi 13 juin.

Ce prix récompense la couverture des Jeux d’Hiver de l’Arctique 2026 qui se sont déroulés au mois de mars à Whitehorse, où Brice Ivanovic - rédacteur en chef du journal - et Bleu Tia Franck Junior - gestionnaire de la radio - ont contribué, via leurs reportages et émissions, à la promotion des langues officielles du territoire durant cette belle semaine de sport.

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘃𝘂𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 ⭐️

Le Nunavoix and CFRT 107.3, published by the AFN (Association des francophones du Nunavut), had the honor of receiving the Special Award from Nunavut’s Commissioner of Official Languages, Karliin Ariaak, during a magnificent gala evening marking the 45th anniversary of the Francophone organization.

This award recognizes the coverage of the 2026 Arctic Winter Games, which took place in March in Whitehorse, where Brice Ivanovic—editor-in-chief of the newspaper—and Bleu Tia Franck Junior—radio manager—contributed, through their reports and broadcasts, to promoting the territory’s three official languages during this wonderful week of sports.

COMMUNITY VISIT AND EVENT IN RANKIN INLET.
The Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut invites community members to join us for an evening of engagement and discussion in Rankin Inlet.
This event will be an opportunity to learn more about:
• language rights in Nunavut;
• the role and mandate of the Office of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut;
• the complaint process;
• and the promotion and protection of Nunavut’s official languages.
The evening will also include a public presentation, tea and coffee, light refreshments, and the presentation of recognition awards to two respected members of the community.

Location: Community Hall, Rankin Inlet
This event is presented in collaboration with the Hamlet of Rankin Inlet. Everyone is welcome.
