Iqaluit RCMP seized prohibited firearm following traffic stop

On May 16, 2026, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Iqaluit RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Ataani Lane.

During the traffic stop, police had reasonable grounds to arrest the driver and passenger for possession of property obtained by crime. Upon arrest, police located, co***ne, cash and a loaded prohibited firearm in the vehicle.

Abdullah Ahmad (age 35) was charged with:

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1) C.C.

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, Section 91(1) C.C.

- Careless transportation of a loaded prohibited firearm, Section 86(2) C.C.

- Carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90(1) C.C.

- Possession of weapon obtained by commission of offence, Section 96(1) C.C.

- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, Section 95(1) C.C.

- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1) C.C.

A 16-year-old youth (non-Nunavut resident) was charged with:

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1) C.C.

- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, Section 91(1) C.C.

- Careless transportation of a loaded prohibited firearm, Section 86(2) C.C.

- Carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90(1) C.C.

- Possession of weapon obtained by commission of offence, Section 96(1) C.C.

- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, Section 95(1) C.C.

- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1) C.C.

- Possession of property obtained by crime, Section 354(1)(a) C.C.

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2) CDSA

Abdullah was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 26, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

The youth was released from custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 26, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Iqaluit RCMP requesting public assistance in identifying suspect

On May 13, 2026, Iqaluit RCMP received a complaint of mischief and theft to a vehicle that occurred over weekend.

The incident occurred on May 9, 2026, between 1:00 a.m, and 2:00 a.m, at the Royal Canadian Legion parking lot. CCTV footage was available which shows an unknown suspect breaking into the parked vehicle and removing items. Iqaluit RCMP are requesting assistance from the public to identify the suspect.

Description of suspect:

- Last seen wearing all dark clothing with a hood,
- Riding a dark-coloured bicycle.

The Iqaluit RCMP wants to remind residents that vehicle break ins can occur in any neighborhood, at any time of day. RCMP want to remind drivers to avoid leaving valuable or personal items unattended in their vehicles.

Robert Campbell is wanted on a Canada wide warrant for the following:

- Fail to Comply with Order, Section 145 (5) C.C.

- Possession of a Prohibited fi****ms with ammunition, Section 95(b) C.C

- Possession of Firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1) C.C

- Careless Transport of Firearm, Section 86(2) C.C

- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited firearm in motor vehicle, Section 94 C.C

- Two counts of Possession of a firearm while being prohibited, Section 117.01(1) C.C

- Two counts of Resists-Obstruct Peace officer, Section 129(a) C.C

Campbell is described as:

- Age 37
- 5’6 feet tall
- 150 lbs
- Inuk male
- Brown hair
- Blue eyes
- Slim build

Nunavut RCMP charge a male with multiple offenses

Iqaluit RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), with assistance from the Pangnirtung RCMP, arrested a male at the Iqaluit International Airport. Police also seized $16,020.00

On May 11, 2026, Yahya Mohammed (age 27), was arrested when he arrived at Iqaluit, Nunavut from Pangnirtung, Nunavut. He had a warrant for his arrest out of Saskatoon and was on court conditions to reside at a residence in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Police have charged Mohammed with:

- Two counts of breach of a release order, contrary to Section 145(5) C.C.

- Two counts of breach probation, contrary to Section 733.1 C.C.

- Possession of Proceeds of Crime, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) C.C.

On May 12, 2026, Mohammed appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is schedule for May 14, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
