πŸ”₯ FIRE BAN IN EFFECTπŸ”₯

The Huron Shores Fire Department has declared a Fire Ban effective June 3, 2026.

The following activities remain permitted:
βœ… Campfires used for cooking or warmth that are attended at all times, contained within a non-combustible fire ring, and located at least 5 metres from buildings and combustible materials
βœ… Outdoor cooking devices, including barbecues and similar cooking appliances

Residents are reminded to use caution with any permitted fire and to ensure it is attended at all times. The Fire Ban will remain in effect until further notice.

Planting season is well underway across Northeastern Ontario, and with more farm equipment travelling on local roads, it's a great time to remember that road safety is a shared responsibility. 🚜🌾

Farm equipment often travels at slower speeds and requires extra space to turn, enter fields, and navigate roadways. Motorists are encouraged to slow down, watch for wide turns, pay attention to slow-moving vehicle signs, and only pass when it is safe and legal to do so. A few extra moments of patience can help prevent serious collisions and keep everyone safe.

Visit our website to learn more about road safety during planting season and explore additional resources from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, including agricultural snapshots, municipal guides, and information that supports local agriculture and rural communities. πŸŒ±β˜€οΈ

Tick Safety Advisory πŸ•·οΈβ˜€οΈ

Now that summer is upon us and residents are spending more time outdoors enjoying hiking trails, camps, cottages, parks, gardens, and wooded areas, the Municipality of Huron Shores would like to remind the public to take precautions against ticks. Ticks are commonly found in tall grass, brush, wooded areas, and leaf litter, and some ticks may carry illnesses such as Lyme disease.

βœ… Tips to Help Prevent Tick Bites:
β€’ Wear light-coloured clothing to spot ticks easier
β€’ Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toe shoes when possible
β€’ Tuck pant legs into socks in wooded or grassy areas
β€’ Use insect repellent containing DEET or Icaridin
β€’ Stay on marked trails and avoid tall grass and brush
β€’ Perform a full body tick check on yourself, children, and pets after being outdoors
β€’ Place outdoor clothing in the dryer on high heat after being outside
β€’ Keep lawns and brush trimmed around your property

🐾 Don’t Forget Your Pets!
Regularly check pets after outdoor activities and speak with your veterinarian about tick prevention products.

🩺 If You Find a Tick Attached:
Use fine-point tweezers to carefully remove the tick by pulling straight upward without twisting. Clean the area well afterward. Avoid using petroleum jelly, nail polish, heat, or other home remedies to remove ticks.

Monitor for symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, joint pain, or a rash and contact a healthcare provider if symptoms dvelop. Residents may also bring ticks to Algoma Public Health for identification and testing information or submit photos through https://www.etick.ca/.
