🎃👻 HALLOWEEN FUN IS COMING TO THESSALON! 👻🎃

The Thessalon Annual Halloween Party is back, and the Municipality of Huron Shores is happy to help sponsor this fun community event! 🧡

📍 Thessalon Memorial Arena (132 Main Street, Thessalon)

Get those costumes ready and bring the kids out for an evening of Halloween fun! There will be a Haunted Dressing Room, Halloween-themed games and activities, and plenty of spooky fun for everyone! 🕸️🦇

🗳️ ONLINE ADVANCE VOTING BEGINS TOMORROW OCTOBER 14th! 🗳️

The 2026 Municipal Election is almost here, and eligible voters in Huron Shores can begin casting their ballots online starting Wednesday, October 14, 2026!

💻 Online Advance Voting: October 14–25, 2026

Eligible voters can cast their ballots from the comfort of their own homes using a computer, tablet or smartphone!

📬 Have You Received Your Voter Information Letter?

Voter Information Letters have been mailed to eligible voters and contain the login credentials and instructions needed to vote online. Be sure to keep your letter in a safe place!

📝 Not on the Voters' List or Need to Update Your Information?

If you have not received your Voter Information Letter, are unsure if you are on the Voters' List, or need to update your information, you can complete an Application to Amend the Voters' List.

The application is available on the Elections page of the Municipality's website, or a paper copy can be completed in person at the Municipal Office.

Municipal staff are available to assist residents who need help accessing or navigating the online voting system. Please note that voting is conducted electronically, and paper ballots are not available at the Municipal Office.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week may be wrapping up, but fire safety doesn’t stop here!

This week we’ve shared a few simple ways to make charging safer: use the correct charger, choose a hard and flat charging surface, recognize the warning signs of a damaged battery, unplug devices when they’re fully charged and take extra care when charging larger batteries.

These are small changes, but making safe charging part of your everyday routine can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.

Working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan also remain important parts of protecting your household.

As we wrap up Fire Prevention Week, the Municipality would also like to recognize the Huron Shores Fire Department and thank our volunteer firefighters for their ongoing commitment to fire prevention, public education and emergency response throughout our community.

Fire Prevention Week may be ending, but safe habits should continue all year long. 🔥🧯

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower! 🔋⚡

🚲🛴🛠️ Bigger battery? Think about where you charge it.

E-bikes, scooters and power tools use larger batteries that store more energy. When possible, these items should be charged outside, and charging equipment should never block a doorway or exit.

If one of these larger batteries fails, a fire can grow quickly, making safe charging especially important.

Take a look at where you normally charge your battery-powered tools and equipment and make sure your exits are always kept clear. For tools and rides, charge outside. 🌳

The Municipality of Huron Shores would like to remind residents that the Municipal Office and all Waste Disposal Sites will be closed on Monday, October 12th for Thanksgiving.

October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme is Charge into Fire Safety Safe Charging Is a Superpower! 🔋⚡

⚠️ Know the warning signs of a damaged battery.

If your device or battery smells strange, feels unusually warm, makes popping noises, changes shape or colour, or begins to smoke, stop using it right away.
If it is safe to do so, move the device away from anything that could catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

Don’t ignore the signs that something may be wrong. If your device is acting differently than it normally does, stop using it.

📱 Where do you charge your phone at night?

If the answer is on your bed, couch or pillow, it may be time to find a new spot!
Charge devices on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk or floor. Soft surfaces such as beds, couches and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.

Before you plug in tonight, move your device to a safe charging surface.
Soft surface? Hard pass. 🔋🙅
