Camping season is just around the corner! πŸ•οΈπŸ₯³ Join us over the next few weeks as we journey through Jasper National Park exploring the campgrounds!

⭐ First up is Whistlers Campground! ⭐

With its central location, a well-connected trail network, and mountain views for days, it’s the perfect basecamp for adventure, and the best spot to catch the awesome interpretive programs at Whistlers Theatre, starting in July!

Those returning will notice the landscape in and around the campground has changed. With less trees to provide shade, consider bringing a shelter to provide protection from the sun and rain.

πŸ“… Operational dates: May 6 to October 12
β›Ί Campsites for every style β€” from full-service to walk-in!
🚿Hot showers!

🐻🐏 Wildlife doesn’t expect you – You need to expect wildlife.

Jasper National Park is home to 53 species of mammals, mammals that rely on a variety of habitats, some of which we share with them. When visiting the park, please remember that you are visiting the animals' habitat. Their continued health and survival relies on us making as little impact on their home as possible. πŸ’š

Be ready to encounter wildlife, brush up on wildlife safety tips, and add bear spray into your adventure kit.

UPDATE

Avalanche closures are anticipated on the Icefields Parkway (93N) on Tuesday, April 21 beginning at 12 noon. The road will be re-opened as soon as possible as conditions allow that afternoon or early evening.

During the springtime, periods of warmer weather may cause wet snow to slide onto road surfaces, requiring necessary avalanche control work.

Check 511.alberta.ca for up-to-date road conditions.

Attention Jasper trail users πŸ”οΈ
Even though it feels like spring in the valley bottom, winter conditions will continue to linger at higher elevations in much of the park for the next several weeks or months. ❄️

If you are planning to hike or backpack in the park, come prepared to encounter hazards that may include:

πŸ”˜ Widespread spring avalanche hazards.

πŸ”˜ Snow covered trails that present a slip hazard and risk of injury. Sturdy footwear and snow cleats are recommended.

πŸ”˜ Snow covered trails at higher elevations that are difficult to follow. Skills in route-finding and navigation may be required.

πŸ”˜ Deep, unsupported snow that will make sections of trail impassable at warmer times of day. Hard snow surfaces crossed in the early morning may become impassable for the return trip in a few hours.

πŸ”˜ Increased risk of rapid snow melt, flash floods, landslides, and falling rock/snow/ice during heat or rain events.

πŸ”˜ Challenging or unsafe water crossings as the snow melts.

πŸ”˜ Backcountry camping in snowy or winter conditions.

Safety is your responsibility. Be prepared πŸ‘‡

Prairie crocuses β€” spring’s first true flower β€” grow prominently in many open grassland landscapes of Jasper's montane.

It’s been a long winter, so keep an eye out in the coming weeks. These violet blooms are among the first to signal that spring has finally taken hold.
