🌳 Check out what has been growing on in the forest lately.

The Food Forest was planted on Tekakwitha Island in 2023 by KEPO and community volunteers. Located next to the pollinator garden, before the Marina, it was created to help address climate change and support food security.

🍎Everything growing in the Food Forest is available for all community members to enjoy.

Please take only what you need and leave some behind for others. Enjoy!

Friday Fieldwork Update!🦎
Fieldwork isn't always a walk in the park. But we still take the time to appreciate some of the wildlife around us. Reminders of why we do the work to protect and restore the environment.
Check out some of what we've been up to and what we have been spotting.

- While clearing invasives in the food forest, we spotted the most perfect monarch.
- Today we also saw a little late season monarch caterpillar. 🦋
- We were on the island with our friends from the Kahnekarónnion (River) Strategy Collective and the St. Lawrence River Institute talking about restoration works.
- Last week, we hosted the North Creek Cleanup. Niá:wen to everyone who helped out. Check out some of what we found in the creek!
- Speaking of the creek, we are happy to report that the transplanted eel grass in the creek is doing well!🌿
- During wildlife surveys we spotted a gartersnake, red-bellied snake, and a brown snake.🐍 Also a blue-spotted salamander and some shagbark hickory.
- We created new paths in the pollinator garden on the island. Check it out during your next walk.
- And we spotted some fun fungus while doing some shoreline assessments Big Fence. Fairy inkcap mushrooms (Coprinellus disseminatus).🍄

We would like to remind the community that the first phase of the Wetland Restoration Project in the Big Fence is beginning the week of September 21st.🌾
Work will include the targeted treatment of approximately 83 acres invasive Phragmites. Please avoid the marked treatment areas for 48 hours following treatment to ensure the effectiveness of the restoration work.
