đź’š Reflecting Back on Mental Illness Awareness Week! đź’š

A BIG thank you to the TRU nursing students for bringing fun, connection, and interactive learning to mental health education! They facilitated an exciting game of Mental Health Jeopardy with Clubhouse members and residents of supportive housing & shelter units throughout Kamloops.

This engaging opptunity allowed participants to learn more about mental illness, challenge stigma, and promote mental health awareness in our community 🎉

Being heard is the beginning. Having a say in what happens next is where change takes root. đź’š

This World Mental Health Day, we are reflecting on what it means to listen, and let people’s experiences shape the support they receive.

At CMHA Kamloops, that means working alongside the people we support, respecting their choices, and remembering that those who offer care deserve care, too.

10/02/2026

On September 30th, we paused to remember the children who never returned home, to honour Residential School Survivors, and to recognize the lasting impacts residential schools have had.

Truth and Reconciliation is more than a day of remembrance, its an ongoing commitment to listening, learning, building relationships, and taking meaningful action.

🧡 We remember. We listen. We learn. We commit to continuing the work of reconciliation.

The Merritt Flood Relief Counselling Program makes it easier to connect with qualified counsellors serving the community.

Counselling support is available at no cost, with options to meet in person, by phone or online.

Browse the participating counsellors, learn more about their areas of practice, and connect directly with someone who feels like a good fit.

Not sure whether the program is right for you? You can still reach out to a counsellor to discuss your needs and available options.

The men around us are often the last ones to ask for help. Not because they do not need it, but because it has not always felt easy or safe to ask.

This Men’s Mental Health Day, be the person who checks in first. A simple “how are you, really?” can open a door someone has been waiting at.

CMHA Kamloops is always behind that door too. đź’™

May 31 to June 6, 2026 is National AccessAbility Week.

National AccessAbility Week is a time to celebrate the valuable contributions of people with disabilities and to recognize the work being done across Canada to remove barriers and create more accessible, inclusive communities.

This year’s theme is Building a Strong, Accessible Canada — a reminder that accessibility is not a one-time effort. It is an ongoing commitment to identifying and removing physical, digital, communication, attitudinal, and systemic barriers so everyone can participate fully and equally.

Accessibility benefits everyone. This week, we encourage our community to reflect, learn, and look for practical ways to make our spaces, services, programs, and conversations more inclusive.

May 24 is Early Psychosis and Schizophrenia Awareness Day.

Today is an opportunity to build understanding, challenge stigma, and show support for people living with early psychosis or schizophrenia — and for the families, friends, caregivers, and communities who walk alongside them.

Psychosis and schizophrenia are often misunderstood. Awareness helps create space for compassion, early support, treatment, recovery, and hope.

People living with schizophrenia and early psychosis are more than a diagnosis, and with the right support, recovery and meaningful quality of life are possible.

In 1990, the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Disease.

That decision opened a door.

Communities around the world mark the anniversary every year, demanding that doors keep opening.

May 14 is Moose Hide Campaign Day.

Today, we stand in ceremony and solidarity to help end gender-based violence and support the collective journey of reconciliation.

The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led movement that invites everyone to take practical action: wear a moose hide pin, start conversations, learn, reflect, and speak out against violence toward women, children, and all those along the gender continuum.
