Kamloops volunteers are the best. 🐾

On July 24, when wildfires forced families from their homes, the Kamloops Animal Care Facility opened its doors to give evacuated pets a safe place to stay.

Since then, an incredible team of volunteers has:
• Contributed more than 4,500 hours of service
• Cared for more than 245 animals
• Supported more than 65 households
• Helped animals from nine communities across British Columbia
• Provided care for dogs, cats, birds, rodents, poultry, and more

Volunteers worked long days, overnight shifts, and around-the-clock schedules to make sure pets were safe, comfortable, and cared for until they could be reunited with their families.

Behind every number is a family who could focus on their own safety knowing their animals were in good hands.

Today, after 43 consecutive days of operation, the facility will transition to a standby model.

The City of Kamloops extends a heartfelt thank you to the incredible volunteers from the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team, Kamloops Ruff Start Rescue Society, and Four Paws Foundation, as well as everyone in our community who stepped forward to help.

Thank you for being there when it mattered most. ❤️

: Starting September 8 for approximately two weeks, crews will be working to replace several tired-looking planters along the 400 and 500 blocks of Tranquille Road. During the work, motorists can expect minor disruptions and, at times, temporary loss of on-street parking within the work zone.

👉 The result? A refreshed, more welcoming streetscape that gives the Tranquille Corridor a brighter, more updated look.

Public Safety Advisory: City Seeking Information Following Serious Dog Attack in Valleyview

The City of Kamloops is asking residents for information following a serious dog attack that occurred in the area of Kelly Douglas Rd and Vicars Rd on Wednesday, September 2.

At approximately 12:00 pm, a pedestrian was reportedly attacked by two loose, dark-coloured dogs near Kelly Douglas Road and Vicars Road. The individual sustained significant injuries and required medical treatment. Community Service Officers responded to the area after the incident and have continued patrols to locate the dogs and identify their owners. At this time, the dogs and their owners have not been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert when walking in the area and to report any loose or aggressive dogs to the City immediately. Anyone who witnessed the incident, observed dogs matching this description in the area or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Community Services.

Protecting public safety is a priority, and City staff are working to identify those responsible and prevent further incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Community Services at 250-828-3409.

Effective immediately, the City of Kamloops has downgraded the drought level to 3, returning water use restrictions to normal and allowing watering up to three days a week.

Water is critical to our city and to our environment, and conservation efforts should continue year-round. Changing your watering habits and reducing the amount of water we use helps protect our ecosystems and reduces the energy used to pump, treat, and distribute water.

We’re proud to share that the City of Kamloops has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association!

This award recognizes communities that meet high standards for developing and presenting their budgets. To earn it, the City’s budget had to meet 14 mandatory criteria across four areas: serving as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.

In other words, this recognition reflects the hard work that goes into making the City’s budget clear, useful, and accountable to our community.

A big thank you to our Finance team and everyone across the organization who helps build and deliver the City’s budget each year. This award recognizes that work and our commitment to responsible financial planning.

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment and the City The Kamloops would like to remind the public of the rules related to e-scooter use. Please use caution and ride safely!
