A special congratulations to seven firefighters and one communications operator who were officially sworn into IAFF Local 913 last night after successfully completing their probationary period.

Completing probation is a significant milestone in the fire service and reflects months of hard work, training, growth, and commitment to our profession. We are proud to welcome each of you into our Local and look forward to supporting you throughout your careers.

As reported by various media, last night around 6pm Kamloops Firefighters responded to an incident involving a vehicle into the North Thompson River.

Prior to emergency crews arriving on scene, courageous bystanders entered the water in an attempt to help those involved - an act of incredible bravery that speaks to the compassion and selflessness within our community.

Firefighters then worked in dangerous and rapidly evolving conditions to bring three people to shore through coordinated rescue efforts, teamwork and determination.

A search remains underway for one occupant believed to still be in the river.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of all emergency personnel and community members involved.

Kamloops Firefighters Charitable Society recently donated $2,500 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada and is proud to continue supporting a longstanding commitment towards funding, research and treatment of neuromuscular disorders in Canada.

This donation relationship between Firefighters and Muscular Dystophy Canada commenced in 1954 and has resulted in over $103 million dollars in donations from Firefighters across Canada since that time. Thank you to everyone who continues to help our Charitable Society donate to those in need!
