Grand Chief Stewart Phillip has asked that we “please broadcast far and wide” our message of tribute and condolence for the loss of Amshen Joan Phillip (Sunset: August 28, 2026.) She will be deeply missed:
Dear Grand Chief Stewart Phillip,
As leadership representatives of the Secwépemc, Syilx Okanagan, and Ktunaxa Nations on behalf of Bringing the Salmon Home: The Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative, we offer our deepest sympathies and solidarity to you and your family as we join in mourning the passing of Amshen Joan Phillip.
We honour Joan’s inspiring life and enduring legacy as an outstanding and fearless leader.
She always stood up with and for her people and the common good, no matter the personal cost.
She led from the heart, with dignity, grace, and fierce strength and commitment.
Our world is better because of Amshen Joan Phillip’s contributions.
Through her unrelenting efforts, she reinforced our collective vision: together we can ensure clean water, healthy lands, and ever-returning salmon, and uphold rights and unity amongst our peoples.
