Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on Friday, July 10, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

In addition to Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires being prohibited, the following activities materials and equipment also remain restricted:
• Air curtain burners
• Carbonizers
• Binary exploding targets
• Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
• Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
• Controlled air incinerators
• Sky lanterns
• Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building

This campfire prohibition will remain in effect until October 9, 2026 at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT, or until the orders are rescinded.

We are in the process of planning a TNRD FireSmart free chipping day for Monte Creek. This is a great opportunity to clean up branches and wood debris from your property and reduce wildfire fuels around your home.

In order to put on this event we need a minimum number of interested properties. A specific date has not been selected but is projected to be early August. If you are interested in this event, please send us a message through Facebook or email us at [email protected]

Chipping Day General Instructions:
1. Place debris at the end of the driveway the night before pickup.
2. For easy pickup, stack wood with butt ends facing the road.
3. Brush needs to be clean and free of dirt and rocks.
4. Woody debris is limited to being a maximum of approximately five inches in diameter.

If you’ve been thinking about tackling those brush piles, now is the perfect time!

Dark skies in the area tonight (Tuesday July 7th) are the result of smoke from the 1,800 hectare Brunswick Creek wildfire near Boston Bar. The website FireSmoke.ca shows a forecast of smoke drifting through Kamloops and Monte Creek throughout the day.

There are no reported wildfires within the Monte Creek area. However, we do expect fire restrictions to be updated on Friday July 10th to include a ban on campfires. We will update our page once updates from BC Wildfire Service are available.

The air quality index this evening is high risk level with Kamloops air quality rated 10 on the 10-point scale at 5:00pm. Remember it is best to stay in doors due to negative health impacts caused by breathing wildfire smoke, especially for those with pre-existing conditions.

Do you know how to PASS? 🧯

To operate a fire extinguisher, use the PASS method:

P - Pull the pin: Hold the extinguisher upright and pull the safety pin at the top. This unlocks the operating mechanism and breaks the tamper seal.

A - Aim low: Point the nozzle or hose directly at the base of the fire, not the flames.

S - Squeeze the handle: Press the top handle or lever slowly and evenly to discharge the contents.

S - Sweep side to side: Keeping the nozzle aimed at the base of the fire, sweep the spray back and forth across the burning material as you slowly advance towards it.

There is one day left to enter the FireSmart colouring and Fire Chief for the day contests!

Colouring Contest: Visit Ember's colouring book and choose a colouring page to complete. Send a photo of your work to the department including your name and age. This contest is open to kids ages 1 - 12. The winner will receive a FireSmart prize!

Fire Chief for the Day: Submit a project that demonstrates the FireSmart efforts you've completed at your home, school, or in your community. Show us your work by taking photos or a video and provide a description of what you accomplished. This contest is open to kids ages 8 - 13. The winner will spend a morning or afternoon with the fire department learning responsibilities of a firefighter including a ride in the engine!

We are currently flying our flag at half-mast in support of the Searsmont Fire Department in Maine where a firefighter lost their life and several others remain hospitalized in serious or critical condition following a lumber mill fire. We send our condolences to the department, friends, and family of fallen firefighter Andrew Cross and those impacted by the tragic event.

Four of our members recently attended the Logan Lake Spring Seminar where over 250 participants from 60 communities came together for an intensive weekend of hands-on firefighter training, knowledge sharing, and emergency preparedness. This annual event is an incredible opportunity for our firefighters to get hands-on skill development while also meeting fellow fighters from other departments.

We are also very proud of one member who showed off her training and leadership skills by leading numerous firefighters through wildland fire training! Way to represent us in front of the province and demonstrate what our little community can do! ❤️
