Yesterday the department participated in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure for the third year in a row! It is the largest breast cancer fundraiser in Canada dedicated to changing the future of breast cancer.

The department raised $7,768.20 towards this amazing cause and was presented with the Women's Team Challenge Award for the incredible fundraising effort. This year we were joined by members from the Pritchard Fire Department and friends and family of department members to make it our largest group to date.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to individual department members and the team as a whole, we could not do without your support! 💟

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time (PT) on Oct. 2, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires will be permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Anyone carrying out a Category 3 open fire must register their burn in the Open Fire Tracking System by getting a burn registration number. Category 2 and 3 open fires must comply with the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation.

Practicing fire safety and preparedness remains important all year long. Be aware of your local conditions, ensure that burning is done in a safe and responsible manner and always check with your local government before engaging in any activity that could spark a wildfire.

For the 3rd year in a row, Monte Creek Fire Department is fundraising and participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday October 4th at Riverside Park in Kamloops.

Donations fund and support the most promising breast cancer research, provide a support system for all those affected by breast cancer, and shape healthy public policies to prevent cancer and support those living with the disease.

Effective at 12:00 noon on Thursday September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted in Monte Creek and throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited. As the campfire prohibition is being lifted, we ask the public to remain vigilant and follow all regulations when enjoying campfires.

A campfire is defined as:
- Any fire no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide (a fire larger than this is considered a Category 2 fire).
- Used by any person for recreational purposes or by a First Nation for a ceremonial purpose.

Effective Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in Monte Creek and the remainder of the Kamloops Fire Centre.

This update was released by BC Wildfire Service recognizing that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many in our communities. With the weather shifting in the area, being cooler with potential rain, the prohibition is rescinded.

All open fire prohibitions and restrictions remain in place, this includes prohibitions on category 1, 2, and 3 fires.

Although we are getting ready to shift into fall, it is crucial to remain wildfire ready and report any new wildfires in our area by calling *5555.

The department is now offering free fire pre-plans for residents, farms, ranches, and businesses in Monte Creek! Fire pre-plans allow the fire department to determine how to best respond to incidents on your property before there is an emergency. It helps first responders reduce response times, make fast decisions, and execute safer, more coordinated operations that minimize property damage and save lives. We are especially interested in large properties that can present challenges when it comes to access and hazards.

Pre-plans are different from FireSmart home assessments and are not eligible for the FireSmart rebate program. Pre-plans conducted by the department will only be used by the department to plan for and act in emergency situations.

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.

WOOD CHIPPING DAY IS CONFIRMED!

Our FireSmart Wood Chipping Day has been confirmed for Monday, August 11.

If you’ve been clearing brush, pruning trees, or removing shrubs around your property, this is a great opportunity to dispose of that woody debris while helping reduce wildfire risk in our community.
To help the chipping day run smoothly:
✔️ Place your debris at the end of your driveway the night before pickup.
✔️ Stack it with the butt ends facing the road.
✔️ Ensure the pile is free of rocks and dirt.
✔️ Branches should be no larger than approximately 5 inches in diameter.
