Led by the Kaslo & Area Fire Department, RDCK Fire and Emergency Management Services, in collaboration with BC Wildfire Service instructors, will host a full-day training session on October 3, 2026, in Kaslo.

As part of the training session, the RDCK is seeking Kaslo-area residents willing to volunteer their property as a staging area. Portions of the property (e.g., yard space) will be used to simulate rapid deployment and crew staging operations. Specifically, we are looking for properties along Arena Ave., Park Ave., 8th Street, A Ave., Wardner St., D Ave., 2nd St., and 3rd St.

Crews and apparatus from across southeastern BC have been invited to participate in the Engine Boss course. This course is designed to equip municipal and regional fire department personnel with the applied skills and knowledge required to perform in the role of Engine Boss in a structure defence capacity. The training emphasizes practical application, leadership, supervision, and decision-making within a Task Force or Strike Team during Wildland Urban Interface incidents.

The RDCK will be represented by 29 members from 17 fire departments, along with six fire apparatus.

As of noon today off-road vehicles (ATVs, motorcycles, side-by-sides) for recreational purposes are not permitted on Crown land as well as RDCK parks land. This prohibition does not include emergency or commercial use types of vehicles

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.

July by the Numbers – Your Kaslo Fire Department

When the pager goes off, our members answer the call—day or night, at work, at home, or with their families. July was another busy month for your Kaslo Fire Department, with members responding to:

🌲 3 Wildland fire incidents
🚗 4 Motor vehicle incidents
🚨 1 Commercial fire alarm
☣️ 1 Hazardous materials incident

Every response is made possible by dedicated members who are committed to serving our communities.

This month's spotlight is on our Lardeau Valley First Responders.

Based out of Meadow Creek, this team of 10 dedicated members provides an essential first response service throughout the Lardeau Valley.
Their commitment, professionalism, and willingness to answer the call—often at all hours of the day and night—make a real difference when every minute counts.

To each of our Lardeau First Responders: thank you for your dedication, your countless hours of training, and your unwavering service to your community. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we are proud to have you as part of the Kaslo Fire Department team.

Tuesday night training at South Beach: drafting from the Kaslo River, relay pumping to a second engine, and discharging through the truck-mounted monitor and an inch-and-a-half handline.

Strong turnout, good mentorship between members, and skills sharpened across the board.

Effective at 12:00 noon Pacific Time on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Category 1 campfire will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre

This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Anyone conducting a Category 1 campfire within the Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdiction must extinguish it by the 12:00 noon Pacific Time, July 23, 2026, deadline. This prohibition will remain in place until 12:00 noon Pacific Time October 31, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.

🚒 June by the Numbers

In June, your Kaslo Fire Department responded to 24 emergency calls – 16 medical/First Responder, 1 commercial fire alarm, 1 residential fire alarm, 2 power lines down, 2 motor vehicle incidents, 1 wildland fire and 1 admin call.

Behind every response is a dedicated team of paid-on-call firefighters who step away from family dinners, work, sleep, and personal commitments to help their neighbours. Whether it’s a medical emergency, motor vehicle incident, fire, or public assist, our members are always ready to serve when called upon.

We’d like to thank our firefighters for their continued commitment, professionalism, and willingness to step up for our community.

Several members of the Kaslo Fire Department have gone on to successful careers with the BC Ambulance Service. The experience, teamwork, leadership, and emergency response skills gained as a firefighter provide an excellent foundation for a career in emergency services.
