Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Today we remember every person whose life has been lost to overdose.

We stand alongside the families, friends and communities who continue to carry that loss.

We also stand with those living with substance use challenges, those in recovery, and everyone working to ensure support is available without judgment or stigma.

After 25 years, this day is still needed.

But it doesn't have to be forever.

By choosing compassion, sharing knowledge, supporting evidence-based approaches and ensuring people have access to care, we can help prevent overdose and save lives.

Today, we remember.
Today, we act.
Together, we work toward a world without overdose.

We’re honoured to join community partners at the West Kelowna Library for the 3rd annual International Overdose Awareness Day event, Who Is At The Table?

This year’s Lunch and Remember will create space for connection and important conversations about grief and loss, substance use, harm reduction, and the local supports and services available in our community.

An empty purple chair at the lunch table will honour those missing from our community, and guests are invited to add a place card with the name of a loved one affected by the overdose crisis.

The Bridge’s Outreach team will be there offering naloxone training, helping community members build the knowledge and confidence to recognize and respond to an overdose.

This is a drop-in event and everyone is welcome. Bring your lunch and join us.

Friday, August 28 | 12:00–2:00 PM

As International Overdose Awareness Day approaches, we pause to remember the lives that have been lost and the families forever changed.

Remembering is important.

So is taking action.

Whether that means learning more about overdose prevention, supporting someone in recovery, carrying naloxone, or advocating for compassionate, evidence-based care, each step helps create safer, healthier communities.

Because every life has value, and every person deserves hope.

Behind every program at The Bridge is a team helping make the work possible.

Our Support Services Team may often work behind the scenes, but their impact is felt across our entire organization. From keeping our spaces safe and welcoming to supporting our people, technology, finances, systems and community relationships, this team helps create the foundation our programs rely on every day.

By taking care of the essential work behind the scenes, Support Services helps our frontline teams focus on what matters most: supporting participants and our community.

Meet the team behind the programs and learn more about the important role they play at The Bridge.

Overdose is preventable.

Education, harm reduction, treatment, recovery supports and community connection all play a role in saving lives.

You don't need to be a healthcare professional to make a difference.

✔ Learn the signs of an overdose.
✔ Carry a naloxone kit.
✔ Check in on someone who may be struggling.
✔ Help reduce stigma by having open conversations.

Every action matters. Together, we can prevent overdose and support recovery.

Overdose does not discriminate.

It can affect people of every age, background, profession and neighbourhood.

Behind every statistic is someone's child, parent, sibling, friend or colleague.

Reducing stigma starts with the words we choose and the compassion we show. When people feel safe asking for help, lives can be saved.

Let's replace judgment with understanding and create communities where people know they belong and where support is within reach.

August is Overdose Awareness Month.

For 25 years, communities around the world have come together to remember those we've lost, support those who grieve, and work toward a future where overdose deaths are prevented.

This year's theme, "25 Years On. Still Needed." is both a reflection and a call to action. While we have made progress, overdose continues to affect individuals, families and communities across Canada.

Throughout August, we'll be sharing information, stories and resources to help reduce stigma, encourage compassion, and remind everyone that recovery is possible and every life matters.

Together, we can help build a future where this day is no longer needed.
