Regional District of Central Okanagan The Regional District of Central Okanagan is the local government in the BC Interior We help protect the quality of life for all citizens.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is a local government which encompasses two unincorporated electoral areas and the member municipalities of Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland and West Kelowna. Our mission is to help enhance the quality of life for all citizens by planning for the future, while delivering efficient and cost-effective services to the region that support the environmen

t, economic development, sustainable communities and transportation. The RDCO encompasses over 314,000 hectares of diverse topography straddling the shoreline of Okanagan Lake in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia’s Southern Interior. Recreational opportunities abound from our mountain peaks, lakes and fantastic sandy beaches and naturally forested areas. We acknowledge our presence on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ (land) of the syilx / Okanagan people who have resided here since time immemorial. We recognize, honour, and respect the syilx / Okanagan lands upon which we live, work, and play.

Bears have been sighted on McKenzie Rd and Dodd Rd in Rutland and Lakeshore Rd near Viewcrest Rd in the Mission area.

WildSafebc Central Okanagan Wildsafe BC is reminding Central Okanagan residents to check yards for attractants, like greasy BBQs, bird feeders and fruit trees. Garbage and yard waste bins should only be placed at the curb between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the day of collection.

📢Evacuation Alerts lifted for Bald Range wildfire
All remaining evacuation alerts for properties in Peachland and Central Okanagan Electoral Area West related to the Bald Range wildfire have been lifted.

BC Wildfire Service has advised the threat to these communities has passed. Crews will continue mop-up operations along the north and south flanks.

Residents are encouraged to stay prepared and continue monitoring updates at coemergency.ca and subscribe for notifications at coemergency.ca/subscribe.

This will be the final public notification from the Central Okanagan EOC regarding the Bald Range wildfire.

📢The evacuation alert for properties from Cinnabar Creek to Westshore Estates related to the Quilpituk Creek wildfire has been lifted. BC Wildfire Service has classified the wildfire as Under Control.

We are grateful for the incredible support from BC Wildfire Service the Government of British Columbia and local firefighting crews for their swift and continued response to keep our regional communities safe.

🚌 Fall service changes are coming to the Kelowna Regional Transit System beginning September 6, 2026.

✅ Route 4 Pandosy/Orchard Park and Route 88 School Special return for the school year
✅ School trips across the system resume
✅ Minor schedule updates on Routes 13, 84 and 98
✅ Additional trips added on several routes to help meet demand, including new school overload trips on Routes 5, 8, 16, 19 and 32

As we soak up the last bit of summer, we want to give a round of ap-paws to our Dog Ambassadors - the dedicated humans who spent the season patrolling our dog parks to promote responsible dog ownership.

With friendly reminders to leash up and pick-up waste, they helped foster a welcoming environment for pups and their people alike. Plus, they handed out some treats and toys along the way!🐕

Protect your pipes and our wastewater systems by disposing of oil and grease the right way.

1. Can it. Cool it. Toss it. Pour grease into a can, then dispose when cooled. If it's still liquid, mix it with shredded paper, kitty litter or an absorbent material before trashing.

2. Scrape food scraps into the trash, not the sink.

3. Before washing greasy dishes, wipe them with a paper towel for disposal.

When you are ready to dispose of your cooking oil, there are two ways to do it.
For smaller amounts (less than 500ml):
• Let it cool.
• Absorb it with kitty litter, cardboard or shredded paper.
• Double bag it.
• Place it in your household garbage.

Or, recycle up to 40 litres at the Glenmore Landfill for free.

Please note: Asquith Road Transfer Station no longer accepts cooking oil
