See below campfires are now permitted in our area there is no open burning allowed

Campfires are now permitted in parts of the Central Okanagan starting Sept. 3 at noon

Following cooler, wetter weather and an update from the Kamloops Fire Centre, Category 1 campfires are now permitted in West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Westbank First Nation, and the Ellison, Joe Rich, North Westside and Wilson’s Landing fire service areas beginning Sept. 3 at 12 p.m.

❗ Campfires remain prohibited in the City of Kelowna, and all open burning remains closed throughout the Central Okanagan until further notice.

If you enjoy a campfire, please use caution, keep fires small, supervise them at all times, and fully extinguish them before leaving. Remember, smoking and va**ng are not permitted in local or regional parks, and fireworks remain banned unless specifically authorized by your local fire department.

To report illegal burning, call 250-469-8577. For provincial fire restrictions, visit the BC Wildfire Service.

Given the scope and scale of wildfires currently burning in B.C., and to further protect public safety, recreational off-road vehicle use will be prohibited on Crown land in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, as well as parts of the Cariboo and Coastal Fire Centres. This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.

Today marks Day 9 of deployment for our Ellison Fire Department crew as they assist at the Bradley Creek and Quilpituk Creek wildfires. Our dedicated team is working tirelessly within the active Bradley Creek Complex alongside neighboring departments and the BC Wildfire Service to support containment lines and protect the community.

While our team is actively on the frontlines of these major incidents, we remain fully committed to supporting and protecting our community both near and far. Our remaining local crews are here, alert, and ready to respond to any emergencies at home.

Early detection saves lives. Here is what you should do if you spot a wildfire:🚨

What to Do If You See a Fire

Call Emergency Services Immediately: Report the location, smoke colour, and size of the fire.
Dial *5555: Use this quick code on cell phones to reach BC Wildfire directly.

Stay Far Away: Never get close to a fire to take photos or video.

Leave the Area: Evacuate safely if the flames or smoke are moving your way.

Report All Smoke: Call even if you think someone else already reported it.

A massive thank you to our crew members who have been on the frontlines for over a week, and to the community for your incredible support. We are proud to protect you
