๐Ÿซ Kicking it Old School!

With students across North Grenville heading back to class, weโ€™re going back too - all the way to September 1875.

Thatโ€™s when Public School S.S. No. 8 opened in Oxford Mills, with about 60 students and just two classrooms - one for the Juniors and one for the Seniors. Imagine fitting the whole school into two rooms ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

For nearly 90 years, generations of local kids learned within those limestone walls, until the school closed in 1964.

Today, you probably know it better as Maplewood Hall.

๐Ÿ”” And one little piece of its school days is still hanging around: the original school bell is still in the belfry.

Another week, another Bright Spot in North Grenville! ๐ŸŒผโœจ

We love seeing the creativity, colour and personality local businesses and organizations bring to their spaces - and to our community ๐ŸŒธ

Take a peek at this weekโ€™s North Grenville in Bloom Bright Spot! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Welcome to Week 14 of Bright Spots NG, celebrating Municipality of North Grenville businesses and organizations that showcase their personality through seasonal arrangements, flower beds, wreaths, and other creative displays that help make our community beautiful and inviting!

For Week 14 we recognize eQuinelle on Equinelle Drive in Kemptville. The coordination of pots, baskets and flower beds between the Club House, Fireside Grill, the Pro Shop and the EQ Homes Sales Centre looks wonderful, especially given that they all give beautiful views of the courses and ponds!

Thank you for helping to make North Grenville look great!

๐Ÿ’œ North Grenville will be turning purple in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.

Council has declared August 31, 2026, International Overdose Awareness Day in North Grenville, supporting an opportunity to remember those lost to overdose, acknowledge the grief of families and friends, and help reduce the stigma surrounding substance use.

You may notice several purple symbols of remembrance around the community:

๐Ÿ’œ The Rotary Park Clock will shine purple from August 24 to September 7, with lighting provided by Beth Donovan Hospice.
๐Ÿช‘ Purple Chairs, painted by the Kemptville Youth Centre, are a powerful symbol of the empty chairs left behind by lives lost to overdose. One will be displayed at the Municipal Centre throughout August.
๐ŸŸฃ Purple memorial flags placed during the August 31 gathering will remain in the Rotary Park garden for one week, creating a visible tribute to those being remembered.

The International Overdose Awareness Day Memorial Gathering takes place Monday, August 31, from 6:00โ€“7:00 p.m. at Rotary Park in Kemptville, with music, poetry, personal reflections and a reading of names in remembrance.

The purple throughout our community carries a message: we remember, we reduce stigma, and we choose compassion.

๐Ÿพ Happy National Dog Day, North Grenville! ๐Ÿพ

Today seems like the paw-fect time for a few friendly reminders for our four-legged residents (and their humans). ๐Ÿถ

๐Ÿ’š Scoop the p**p! Dog waste can go in your green bin at home.

๐Ÿ• Leashes, please! Dogs must be leashed whenever theyโ€™re off their ownerโ€™s property, including on dog-friendly trails and in recreational areas.

๐ŸŒฒ Got the zoomies? The Ferguson Forest Centre Dog Park is a fully fenced, off-leash space with open and wooded areas, plus a separate area for smaller dogs. Outside the fenced dog park, dogs need to be back on leash.

๐Ÿท๏ธ And because every good dog deserves to be official and wear some bling: find FAQs and purchase/renew your dog licence at ng.licensing.pet.
