Honor Our Veterans Banner Program
The Honor Our Veterans Banner Program is an ongoing initiative aimed at honoring military veterans who have served or continue to serve in the Canadian and Commonwealth Forces. This program encourages communities to remember the sacrifices made by their local veterans. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 Kemptville, in partnership with the Municipality of North Grenville and the North Grenville Historical Society, has launched this program to ensure continued recognition and respect for veterans by future generations. The banners will be displayed along Prescott Street in North Grenville from October to November, with a display life of a minimum of three years, depending on local weather conditions. When retired, the banners will be presented to the honouree, applicant, or sponsor as a keepsake.
Private Blake Neil Williamson is proudly nominated for the Honour Our Veterans Banner Program by the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Defiant. A former resident of North Grenville, Private Williamson served with Charles Company, 1st Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment. On October 14, 2006, while serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, he was tragically killed in action during a rocket-propelled gr***de attack. In 2016, the Municipality of North Grenville unanimously voted to preserve his memory locally by naming the historic Armoury Building the Pte. Blake Williamson Memorial Hall, ensuring his sacrifice is never forgotten by the community he called home.
