Beth Donovan Hospice

Beth Donovan Hospice Beth Donovan Hospice provides compassionate support and care to individuals and their families

Beth Donovan Hospice provides compassionate support and professional care to individuals and their families as they journey through the challenges of life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life transitions. Whether in a home or hospital setting, the experienced staff and trained volunteers of Beth Donovan Hospice give of themselves to ensure that the families receive the assistance, support and guidan

ce they need. Founded through the compassion and vision of generous volunteers, Beth Donovan Hospice has been providing services to the community for over 20 years in the North Grenville - Merrickville area and more recently in the communities of South Ottawa. BDH serves all members of the community who have any life limiting illness; a terminal diagnosis is not the exclusive criterion. Medical care is not offered by Beth Donovan Hospice; however, we do attempt to co-ordinate our services with those offered by other agencies so that clients receive the maximum benefits. To speak to someone about how we may be of service, please call us at 613-258-9611. Referrals are accepted from: family members, clients, friends, clergy, physicians and other health care professionals and agencies, and, of course, self-referral. The patient/client must agree to involvement in the Hospice home-visiting program and be receptive to periodic visits by the Executive Director or Co-ordinator of Volunteers to assess ongoing needs and to monitor the program.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last evening for our Overdose Awareness Memorial at Rotary Park. πŸ’œ

Gathering publicly matters. It helps reduce stigma, opens conversations, and creates a space to remember those we have lost and support those who continue to struggle.

A special thank you to the Kemptville Youth Centre for creating our purple chairs representing loved ones missing from the table, The Flower Shop for the purple carnations, Compassionate North Grenville , Municipality of North Grenville, Kemptville Stress Relief Centre and our community partners: Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville, Connect Youth , Southeast Public Health, who also provided naloxone kits, and Unbroken Recovery.

Our memorial flags will remain in the Rotary Park garden for the rest of the week. If you’re passing by, take a moment to remember those lost to overdose and the loved ones left behind. πŸ’œ

Free naloxone kits β€’ Community resources β€’ Refreshments β€’ Memorial gathering

Join us Monday, August 31 from 6-7 PM at Rotary Park in Kemptville as we recognize International Overdose Awareness Day, a day observed around the world to remember those lost to overdose and support families, friends and those still struggling.

The Health Unit will be on site with free naloxone kits, along with community organizations offering information and support.

We’ll share names, pause for a moment of silence, and have memorial flags, refreshments and carnations to take home.

Everyone is welcome. This is a judgement free space. πŸ’œ

Our day hospice this week spent some time outside and in virtual reality! Our summer student Katie got them set up with the headset to travel the world to places like Holland, Newfoundland, and even under the sea to watch some whales and sea creatures! Some of the brave even tried their hand at a rollercoaster! The afternoon included musical entertainment from Keith's Kitchen Party! It was a beautiful day!

A big thank you to Kelly Funeral Homes and the Arbor Memorial Foundation for their generous $2,500 donation to Beth Donovan Hospice. πŸ’œ

With less than 50% of our work funded through government sources, donations from businesses, foundations and individuals are essential to providing the programs and services our community relies on, at no cost to the people and families who need them.

We are especially grateful that Kelly Funeral Homes , Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery and the Arbor Memorial Inc. have chosen to support Beth Donovan Hospice over the years. Their continued generosity helps provide compassionate care and support to people navigating serious illness, caregiving, grief and end of life.

Thank you for continuing to invest in our community.

Our summer students put on a rave for Day Hospice last week and they loved it! They transformed the art room with glowsticks, black lights, a DJ and a bouncer! We couldn't keep everyone from the dance floor as hits such as the chicken dance and the YMCA lit up our very own night club. It was amazing to see everyone singing and dancing!

The next meeting is online on Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00PM. Sign up at https://youth-caregiver.raiselysite.com/

Thanks to our sponsor TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for making this program possible!

This week at Day Hospice, we were entrained be a wonderful jazz band. As the music played, Keith was quick to remind us that there's always time to dance. πŸ’œ

It's a beautiful reminder that even in the midst of life's challenges, moments of joy, connection, and laughter are worth embracing.

As we head into the Civic Holiday long weekend, we hope you find your own moments of peace, whether that's spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, relaxing with a good book, or maybe even dancing in your kitchen.

Please note that Beth Donovan Hospice will be closed on Monday, August 3 for the Civic Holiday. We will reopen on Tuesday, August 4 at 8:30 AM.

If you or someone you know would like to access hospice services, self-referrals can be completed anytime on our website:

From all of us at Beth Donovan Hospice, we wish you a safe, restful, and peaceful long weekend. πŸ’œ
