🚨 On highways: pull as close as you can to the right

🎆 Happy Victoria Day Weekend, North Grenville! 🎆

As we kick off the unofficial start of summer, the North Grenville Fire Service is reminding everyone to celebrate safely this long weekend.

🎇 Only use fireworks in clear, open areas away from buildings, trees, and dry grass. Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby for used fireworks and “duds.”
🚫 Check burn permits and active burn bans before lighting any fire - and ALWAYS call before you burn: 613-706-1770.
🍔 Keep barbecues at least 3 feet away from your home, deck railings, and anything flammable - and never leave them unattended while lit.
🔥 Test your smoke & CO alarms wherever you’re staying this weekend - at home, in a cottage, camper, RV, or rental accommodation.

Let’s keep the long weekend safe, fun, and fire-safe for everyone🚒

⚠️ BATTERY SAFETY NOTICE ⚠️

The North Grenville Fire Service accepts regular household batteries for recycling at our fire stations.

🚫 However, we DO NOT accept damaged, swollen, leaking, or expanding batteries due to the serious fire risk they pose.

If you have a damaged or expanding battery:
🪣 Place the battery in a bucket of sand
📍 Bring it to the Waste Transfer Station in Oxford Mills for proper disposal

Lithium-ion batteries can ignite or explode if damaged, so proper handling is extremely important for the safety of our firefighters, staff, and community.

When transporting batteries:
✔️ Keep them separated
✔️ Avoid puncturing or crushing
✔️ Store them away from flammable materials

Thank you for helping keep North Grenville safe! 🔥
