Between calls this week we managed to get a training night in on Thursday!

🚨We reviewed wildland backpack deployment procedures with newer members for the field fire season upon us.

🌲Wildland hose backpacks are specially designed packs used to carry lightweight fire hose deep into areas that fire trucks can't reach. They allow firefighters to quickly deploy hose lines in a progressive firefighting approach over rough terrain to attack grass, brush, and forest fires. These packs are an essential tool for efficient and effective wildland firefighting.

Also, we are excited to announce that our SCBA bottle filling station has arrived and is being installed this week! This is the unit that was purchased with the funds raised at our Bingo Night in December!

At 4:32pm Kenaston Volunteer Fire Department was toned out to a ditch fire 3 miles west of Kenaston on Highway 15.

4 members responded with 3 units.

Upon arrival the fire was quickly brought under control. Hot spots were then located and extinguished.

The ignition source is unknown. However, this is a good indicator that even with cooler air temperatures we are currently facing very dry conditions going into the 2026 Harvest Season.

At 2:58pm Kenaston Volunteer Fire Department responded to a Bale Fire in Bladworth.

While DC Allie Lowdermilk and Jamie Siroski was traveling to Davidson they spotted smoke from a farm yard. Upon investigation they found multiple round bales on fire threating a large silage pile & buildings.

KFD responded with 4 members and 3 units and requested Davidson Volunteer Fire Department for water support.

Members began extinguishing the bales and using a tractor to move the bales away from further fuel. The wind was in our favor and the fire was brought under control before further spread. All bales raked out and hot spots extinguished.

The area was cleaned up and scene handed over to land owners. All units back in service at 5:41pm.

Thank you to Davidson Fire Department for your assistance today!

This morning at 2:32am Kenaston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the community of Bladworth.

6 members responded with all units and a mutual aid request for Davidson Volunteer Fire Department was made.

Upon arrival there was minor smoke within the structure already being vented by the occupants of the home. With no visible fire source an interior search was completed by both departments for heat/ignition sources. It was then deemed a possible electrical issue.

The power was shut off to the structure with a reccomendation that a electrician be contacted in the morning to locate the issue.

Back in service at 4:08am.

An update was provided today and it was deemed a neutral wire from the pole to the house was broken causing an imbalance in voltages.
