This photo resurfaces and it remains the photo of Pride 2024.

During the Pride march in Porto, Portugal, an elderly man stood at the doorway of his home holding a Portuguese flag. At first, many marchers felt uneasy. In many places, waving a national flag at a Pride event can be seen as a sign of anti-LGBTQ+ protest. People slowed down, unsure of what would happen next.

But the truth was something entirely different.

The man wasn't protesting. He simply didn't own a rainbow flag and wanted to show his support in the only way he could. A young woman named Lily approached him and offered the Pride flag she had been carrying. He exchanged his Portuguese flag for the rainbow flag and embraced it tightly.

This photograph captures the exact moment he received it.

In that instant, someone who may have felt like an observer became part of the celebration. Someone felt seen. Someone chose love over fear, connection over distance.

That is what Pride is all about: making sure no one has to remain invisible. 🏳️‍🌈

This event celebrates the voices of the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community and allies. Strong language may be used, but hate speech of any kind will not be tolerated. Please keep performances mindful of this all-ages space.​

Not comfortable performing live? You can still submit something to be read aloud by our host through the Kenora Pride website.​

This event is free to attend. Donations to Kenora Pride will be gratefully accepted.
