🌿 National Indigenous Peoples Day Closure Notice 🌿

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong will be closed on Monday, June 22, in lieu of June 21. We will reopen and resume regular business hours on Tuesday, June 23.

We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to celebrate and honour the rich cultures, languages, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. Attend a local event, listen to Indigenous stories, support Indigenous artists and businesses, or spend time learning about the history and cultures of the Peoples whose lands we share.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and enjoyable National Indigenous Peoples Day weekend. 🧡

Agency One First Nations Cultural Organization is hosting the second weekend of the Birch Bark canoe build this coming weekend! Stop by to check it out.

This June, Agency One is hosting a Traditional Canoe Build at Seven Oaks, open to all community members - Elders, youth, and everyone in between. This is a chance to learn, work together, and connect with a tradition that has always been part of life on this land.

We are honoured to welcome Darren Lentz and Alyssa Lentz, who will be coming from Thunder Bay to lead the build.

The canoe build will take place over the first and third weekends of June: June 5–7 and June 19–21, 2026.

The first weekend begins with a traditional opening by James Henderson at 11:00 AM on June 5, 2026.

No registration is required - come gather, learn, visit, and watch throughout the build.

There will also be an opportunity for community members and youth to sign up for a canoe course. Sign-up will be available on site during the first weekend. The canoe course will take place on the third weekend (Saturday).

Maryam & Beverley took some time to attend the “Birch Bark Canoe Building” session held at the Seven Oaks area of Agency One land (formerly Point Park). This is the land where many Anishinaabeg gathered together. Witnessing this is truly inspiring! Stop by June 6 & 7, 2026 to learn about birch bark teachings and take part in building a canoe.

For youth 30 & under who are returning to Post-Secondary School in the fall.
This program helps students gain valuable work experience in their field of study while building skills for their future careers.

FN Youth Summer Student Employment Program

For youth ages 14–18 years old looking to build skills, explore career interests, and gain summer work experience.

These programs are a great opportunity to develop workplace skills, build confidence, and earn income over the summer!

⛳️ Team Shooniyaa AUN-TEES hit the greens on June 4th for the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation’s 7th Annual “Golfing for Philanthropy” Fundraiser Tournament! 💚🏌️‍♀️

Charlene, Beverley, Stephanie and Misty had an amazing day filled with Auntie laughs, community spirit, delicious food 🍔🌭 and friendly competition!

A huge Miigwech to our valued partners People First HR Services for sponsoring our team, and to the Kenora & Lake of the Woods Community Foundation for organizing such a fantastic event that brings our community together. 👏✨ The tournament held at the Kenora Golf & Country Club was incredibly well organized, and it was wonderful to see so much local support throughout the day, with all of the additional games and prizes.

And… Team Shooniyaa AUN-TEES came home with not one, but TWO wins! 🏆😄
