๐Ÿงก National Indigenous History Month ๐Ÿงก

June is National Indigenous History Month โ€” a time to recognize, celebrate, and learn about the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Mรฉtis Peoples across Canada.

Throughout the month, we encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn, and reflect on the stories, teachings, languages, and knowledge that have shaped this land for generations.

๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

At Bimose Tribal Council, we honour the strength, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous Peoples and communities, and we celebrate the cultures and languages that continue to thrive today.

Miigwech to the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, language speakers, youth, and community members who help carry these teachings forward for future generations.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Building Capacity, Building Relationships ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Bimose Tribal Council Inc. is proud to kick off our second year of SP-100 Wildland Firefighter Training alongside chainsaw operation, WHMIS, and first aid certification training. ๐ŸŒฒโ›‘๏ธ
This training continues to grow each year as communities recognize the importance of local wildfire response capacity, emergency preparedness, and community resilience. Participants from across Bimose member communities are coming together to build the practical skills needed to safely support wildfire response efforts in Northwestern Ontario.

Beyond the technical training, this initiative is also about strengthening nation-to-nation relationships, collaboration, and mutual support between communities. Bringing people together to learn, share experiences, and support one another helps build stronger regional partnerships and a more coordinated response during emergencies. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Wildfire seasons are becoming increasingly challenging, and investing in community-based training helps ensure First Nations have trained local responders who understand the land, the people, and the unique realities of our communities.
A huge thank you to all participants - your dedication and commitment to community safety truly make a difference.
We would also like to thank Murray Macquarrie at Specialty Services Agency, Fin and Feather Lodge for hosting, and the Dryden Fire Management Headquarters for their continued support of this training initiative.

05/15/2026

Bimose Tribal Council would like to remind all community members that new wildland fires are occurring across Northwestern Ontario, and we are currently experiencing very high winds.
Fire hazard conditions are now rated HIGH to EXTREME in many areas. These conditions can cause fires to spread quickly and unpredictably.
Please be diligent and take extra precautions:
โ€ข Avoid open burning whenever possible
โ€ข Never leave campfires unattended
โ€ข Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials
โ€ข Avoid parking hot vehicles or ATVs in tall dry grass
โ€ข Report smoke or wildfire concerns immediately
We encourage everyone to stay alert, monitor local conditions, and practice FireSmart principles around homes and properties to help reduce wildfire risk.
Stay safe and prepared.

We are actively responding to several new wildland fires that have been confirmed today in the Northwest Region under high to extreme fire hazard conditions.
Travel may be impacted by fires near roadways.
Please stay clear of areas where crews and aircraft are working.
For road closure information, visit: https://511on.ca/
For the most up-to-date fire information, visit our interactive fire map: https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/ForestFireInformationMap/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM&locale=en-CA
