Today, I’m feeling an enormous amount of gratitude for (Rachel Reid).
Her $300,000 donation to the Annapolis Valley Regional Library is extraordinary. It is generous, community-minded, and a very real lifeline for a library system that has spent far too long being forced to make impossible choices. Thank you, Rachel Reid. Truly. Thank you for investing in our communities, our library workers, our kids, our seniors, our readers, and everyone who depends on these spaces. This is a win worth celebrating. This incredible gift gives everyone something we desperately needed: time.
Time for the province to stop treating libraries asking for adequate, sustainable funding like an opponent. Time for municipal and provincial governments to come to the table with AVRL, do the hard work, and build a funding model that actually works. Philanthropy can give them breathing room; it cannot replace the responsibility of governments we elect to work on our behalf.
Enough with the heated rivalry; get to the table. Fund our libraries, and do your job.
