KENTVILLE POLICE REMAIN ON SCENE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. NO THREATS TO THE PUBLIC.

Ongoing Police Presence in the area of Prospect Avenue and Inglewood Avenue Kentville,NS

The Kentville Police Service with the assistance of the RCMP currently conducting an active investigation in the area.

Residents will notice a heavy police presence, including specialized units and emergency vehicles.

We ask that you please avoid the area.

There is no threat to the general public at this time

The Kings Special Olympics basketball team proudly won a national silver medal at the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Medicine Hat, contributing to Team Nova Scotia's impressive total of 56 medals.

The silver-medal-winning basketball team was composed entirely of athletes from Kings Special Olympics:

The Kentville Police Service Youth Program took its final bow last month, and we’re sending a big high-five to all our eager and energetic participants!

Kentville Police Service lay arson charges

On July 7, 2026, the Kentville Police Service responded to a serious incident involving a structure fire on Webster Court, Kentville, Nova Scotia. The fire, which initially started outside one building, rapidly spread to an adjacent structure.

Thanks to the prompt and coordinated efforts of the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) and additional local volunteer fire services, the situation was brought under control. Their prompt action prevented further damage and ensured the safety of nearby building and residents

As a result of the thorough investigation, Andrew Baltzer, age 32, of Kentville has been charged with two counts of Arson Causing Damage to Property under section 434 and a Breach of Probation Order under section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC). Baltzer was remanded into custody and is appearing July 13, 2026
at the Kentville Provincial Court.

Camp Courage: First Responders Society

The First Responders Society-Camp Courage is a non-profit organization founded in January 2006 by firefighter Andrea Speranza. This initiative was established to provide young women and gender-diverse youth, aged 15 to 19, with an introduction to careers as first responders. The ultimate aim of Camp Courage is to empower these individuals, instilling them with the confidence to pursue any career, goal, or dream they desire.

For the past three years, the Kentville Police Service has been a proud supporter of Camp Courage. We believe our involvement underscores the importance of community partnerships in nurturing the next generation of first responders. The collaboration with Camp Courage allows the police service to actively contribute to the development of young minds interested in public safety careers.

Constable Heather Campbell represented the Kentville Police Service during a recent Camp Courage session. She delivered an engaging presentation that demonstrated how a routine traffic stop could lead to a life-saving arrest of an impaired driver. This scenario emphasized the critical role that police officers play in ensuring public safety.

Additionally, participants had the chance to experience the effects of impaired driving through the use of DUI simulation goggles. This interactive activity involved navigating an obstacle course while wearing the goggles, highlighting the dangers and impacts of being under the influence. Such hands-on experiences are vital in communicating the realities and responsibilities associated with being a first responder.

The Kentville Police Service has long been a dedicated supporter of the Special Olympics, demonstrating their commitment through active participation and volunteer efforts. Last week, members of the Kentville Police Service proudly attended the Nova Scotia Special Olympics Summer Games in Antigonish.

One of the most inspiring moments of the games was the NS Law Enforcement Torch Run, an event that symbolizes hope and inclusion. Members of the Kentville Police Service carried the "Flame of Hope" into the opening ceremonies with many other policing partners from across NS, a powerful gesture that represented the unity and shared goals of the law enforcement community and the Special Olympics.

KPS would like to thank Sgt Kevin Pick and Auxiliary Cst Brad Rafuse for their enthusiastic participation in the Torch Run. Their commitment highlighted the dedication of the Kentville Police Service to fostering an inclusive environment for all athletes.

Additionally, Cst Nate Mooij deserves recognition for volunteering his time as a coach with the Kings Special Olympics Bocce Team. His involvement not only provided invaluable support and guidance to the athletes but also enriched the spirit of the games with his dedication and sportsmanship.

MEDIA RELEASE

On July 9, 2026, members of the Kentville Police Service conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle without a license plate. Police learned that the driver was bound by a court order to remain in their residence at all times. During the arrest, police seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, cash, scales, and electronic communication devices. The street value of the suspected methamphetamine is up to $8,000.

Christopher James ROUSE, age 52, of Paradise, is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and three counts of failing to comply with release order. ROUSE was held in custody by police and is appearing in Kentville Provincial Court on July 10, 2026.
