Learn more about proper waste sorting, pick up helpful resources like sorting guides and waste calendars, and test your recycling knowledge with the Alcatrash waste-sorting game.

Over the past four weeks, we’ve explored the paradise of the Valley region of Nova Scotia, learned more about the extent of our litter problem, and looked at the impacts litter can have on our communities, wildlife, and environment. Now, we’re going to talk about solutions. While preventing litter in the first place is key to solving the problem, there are plenty of things that we can do to address the litter present in our communities already 💙 🗑️ 🚮

Nova Scotia is in Mi’kma’ki — the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. We’re all treaty people. We recognize that African Nova Scotians are a distinct people whose histories, legacies, and contributions have enriched the part of Mi’kma’ki known as Nova Scotia for over 400 years.

Valley Waste Management sites and office will be closed on Wednesday, September 30th, to observe the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. There will be no collection, and the management centers and office will be closed. If your pickup falls on September 30th, your alternate collection is Saturday, October 3rd, starting at 7 am.

Reusable school lunches are expanding across Nova Scotia! 🍎♻️

Thanks to a $150,000 grant from Divert NS, Friendlier and Chartwells are bringing reusable meal containers to 26 schools this school year.

Last year alone, this reuse model kept more than 181,000 single-use containers out of landfills. Containers are collected directly from schools, washed and sanitized right here in Nova Scotia, and returned for reuse up to 100 times.

Practical, local solutions making a measurable difference for our environment!
