🧡 For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we are reflecting on how the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action apply to community organizations like LSCSS.

Several of the Calls to Action relate directly to areas such as children and families, health, education and training, public awareness, and organizational practices.

At LSCSS, this includes:
🧡 Providing staff and volunteer training in Truth and Reconciliation, cultural safety and trauma-informed practice.

🧡 Incorporating Indigenous books, artwork, and perspectives into programs and community spaces.

🧡 Creating opportunities for learning and dialogue through initiatives such as Table Talks and other educational and relational activities.

🧡 Recognizing the importance of family, caregivers, Elders, and intergenerational connections in our work.

🧡 Listening, learning, and adapting when we get things wrong.

We know reconciliation is ongoing work. We will not always get everything right, but we are committed to learning, reflection, and action.

This position requires a minimum 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule. Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

The Community Housing Fund helps make certain units more affordable. LSCSS extends a heartfelt thank you to Kim and Dennis Grassick, the Big Daddy's Hot Rod Round Up Charity Car Show, its sponsors, volunteers, participants, and supporting foundations for an incredible $47,000 donation supporting local programs and services.

This generous contribution will support women's counselling, legal services, the Starfish Pack Program, our Community Holiday Market, and the Neighbour-to-Neighbour Fund, which helps us respond to emergency and unfunded community needs. It will also support our new Men's Counselling Program, which provides support to men who have experienced violence, as well as those who have used violence and are working to build healthier relationships and prevent future harm.

A special thank you to Bev Cave of Baked by Bev, who designated $1,000 of the donation to the Starfish Pack Program.

Community support like this helps ensure individuals and families across the South Similkameen can access assistance, opportunities, and services when they need them most. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this year's event.

Virtual Women's Circle is an 8-session group offered over a four-month period, providing participants with opportunities to connect, learn, and reflect in a supportive and welcoming environment.

8 sessions over 4 months: August 10 and 24, September 14 and 28, October 5 and 26, and November 9 and 23. 1-2:30 pm Monday afternoons.

Sessions will be held virtually through Zoom, with additional opportunities for engagement and community-building through the interactive platform Padlet. Participants will be encouraged to explore resources, share perspectives, and engage in meaningful discussion from the comfort of their own homes.

Each session will focus on a specific topic related to personal growth, emotional well-being, and healthy relationships. Topics include:

Values and personal identity
Emotional regulation
Mindfulness
Self-care
Communication skills
Healthy relationships
Boundaries and consent

Through guided discussions, reflective activities, and shared experiences, participants will have opportunities to increase self-awareness, develop practical coping and communication skills, and build connections with other women in a respectful and supportive space.
