🔋 Lithium-Ion Battery Safety

Lithium-ion batteries are common in many household items, including phones, tablets, power tools, e-bikes, scooters, toys, battery banks, e-cigarettes, and electric vehicles. Proper use and storage can help prevent fires.

✔️ Purchase certified batteries and devices that meet recognized safety standards.
✔️ Follow all manufacturer instructions.
✔️ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface away from bedding, papers, and other combustibles.
✔️ Unplug devices once fully charged.
✔️ Recycle old or damaged batteries responsibly at approved hazardous waste depots or events.

⚠️ Never alter a battery or device.
⚠️ Be cautious if a battery or device has been dropped or damaged.
⚠️ Do not charge devices on beds, couches, or soft surfaces.
⚠️ Do not store e-bikes or scooters in exits or doorways.
⚠️ Never place batteries in household garbage or recycling bins.

Lithium-ion battery fires can grow quickly, produce toxic smoke, and may explode. Ensure working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed near charging and storage areas.

☎️ Call 911 immediately if a lithium-ion battery fire or any other fire occurs.
