Coyotes are extra active lately as they search for their partners and start making babies. Here they can play out their courtships naturally, where they are safe and protected. The only arrows being thrown in these woods belong to Cupid.💘

Children belong in nature. It’s where they learn their greatest lessons. Here they wobble, fall, and get back up again. They can breathe deeply, play freely, find peace, and develop a true respect for our natural world. Through each step in the woods and skate across the ice, resilience and love takes root and becomes part of their story.

Yesterday was a doozy. Snow came down for 12 hours straight leaving several feet of extra snow. The wind created massive drifts, and changed the landscape as we knew it. The animals hunkered down and waited patiently for it to pass. This morning the storm is gone, the sun is shining and the animals are coming out of hiding. Today is a reminder that the hard days will one day end and the light will always return. Stay hopefully and full of love.

When life gives you snow, make angels!

12/20/2025

We refer to deer as “the Angels of the Woods”. When we spot their delicate hoof tracks in the snow, we call them “Angel Prints”. They are the most gracious, gentle, and beautiful beings. We suspect that the lead Mama here is the one with the spring twins (see reel from June 29th). How sweet that she’s joined together with another mom.

Also, it’s easy to see how attached and reliant young deer still are to their mothers at this time of the year. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to think of all of the young ones, who have lost their moms in this year’s fall hunt, murdered by hunters.

One of our favourite things about winter is watching animals cross the frozen lake. They can’t resist the shortcut, and it gives us a clear view of individuals we usually only know by their tracks or distant howls.

These beautiful wild dogs are no different from the ones we pamper and let sleep in our beds. They are intelligent, sensitive, deeply connected to their families, and just as deserving of life and respect as any other animal.

It’s always confusing when people claim to love dogs yet trash talk—or even hunt—coyotes. They are essentially the same animals, simply trying to survive in a world where their natural habitat is disappearing.

Let’s hold more love for coyotes.

The first steps onto the frozen lake are some of the most spectacular moments of the year! Walking across this blank canvas is a surreal feeling of stepping onto Mother Nature’s masterpiece. The beauty takes the breath away. What a gift.
