AMS Food Bank

The AMS Food Bank is a non-profit organization that serves as a confidential and non-judgmental food service for those in the Queen's community.

Located in room 343 of the JDUC, the AMS Food Bank serves confidential and non-judgmental food service to members of the Queen’s community. We aim to provide our patrons with food services in the most comfortable environment possible. We operate mainly on an opt-outable student fee from both the AMS and the SGPS, along with donations from the Public Service Alliance of Canada (Local 901) and other

community organisations. Our funding primarily goes towards the regular purchase of healthy foods, including produce, eggs, meat, and dairy products. The Food Bank provides a reliable and confidential service to ensure that Queen’s students and postdocs can be healthy and productive as they pursue academic achievement. We also seek to address the underlying causes of poverty so as to alleviate, and ultimately eliminate poverty among Queen’s community members. The Food Bank also works closely with other food-focused organizations in the Queen’s and Kingston community.

The Computing Students' Orientation Leaders donated 150+ canned food to the AMS Food Bank!!! As part of their commitment to support students and capture more of the student life, we picked up the Food Bank Head Manager from the JDUC and took a trip down to the walmart (students can use their Bus-It Pass to use public transit to get there) to buy items most frequently in demand.

As demand for food support rises, the Alma Mater Society Food Bank is helping Queen’s students access nutritious food through confidential services, campus partnerships, and community care.

Since 2022, the Alma Mater Society (AMS) Food Bank has supported nearly 7,000 students and distributed $188,084 worth of groceries. The demand continues to grow: in summer 2026, the Food Bank recorded a 71 per cent increase in patrons compared with the previous summer.

The AMS Food Bank would like to give a massive thanks to the SGPS for their exceedingly helpful donations, including various types of chips, cookies, and instant noodles, that had sustained our shelves over the past month.

This summer, there’s been an unanticipated increase in patrons accessing the service! Since mid-July, we’ve had over 400 patrons walk through our doors, and these contributions allow us to provide a wider variety of products.

Thank you again for the amazing support you’ve shown for the service, and for the patrons! ☀️

The AMS Food Bank will be closed on Wednesday, July 1st, for Canada day 🍁🇨🇦 We’ll instead be opening on Thursday, July 2nd, from 5-7PM.

This change is ONLY for this week, and we’ll be going back to regular days of operations (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) starting the week of July 6th
