🌟 Youth Voices Matter! 🌟

Young people have the ideas, experiences, and perspectives to help shape stronger, healthier communities. At Teach Resilience, we believe their voices deserve to be heard and their leadership encouraged! 💙

That's why we're proud to support the KFL&A Unnamed Youth Project's 2nd Annual Youth Symposium!

This year's event is taking over the library, bringing youth together to connect, share ideas, build skills, and have a say in the future of their community.

On October 2, Teach Resilience welcomed KCHC colleagues for a full day of learning about trauma-informed approaches in primary care. 💙

Accredited through Queen’s University, the course brought together staff to explore how understanding trauma can shape the way we communicate, build connections and support the people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made time for this important learning!

Mental health matters every day. 💚

This World Mental Health Day, Teach Resilience is reminding you that resilience doesn’t mean being strong all the time. It can mean taking a break, asking for help, or letting someone know how you’re really feeling.

Let’s make space for honest conversations, check in with one another, and remember that everyone deserves care and support.

What’s one small way you can care for yourself today?

🧡 Today, Teach Resilience recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. We acknowledge the profound and lasting impacts of residential schools, including the intergenerational trauma that continues to affect Indigenous individuals, families, and communities.

Trauma-informed practice begins with understanding. It asks us to listen, to recognize the experiences that shape people and communities, and to create spaces rooted in safety, respect, trust, and compassion.

Reconciliation requires more than acknowledgement. It requires an ongoing commitment to learning about the truths of our shared history, listening to Indigenous voices, and considering how our practices and systems can better support healing and wellbeing.

Today, we encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn, reflect, and continue that work beyond September 30.

A trauma-informed workplace isn’t just about policies or training. It’s reflected in the everyday ways we communicate, collaborate and support one another.

Clear expectations, predictable communication, meaningful choices, and asking instead of assuming can all help create environments where people feel safer, respected and supported.

Small shifts in how we work together can make a meaningful difference. 💜

💜 International Overdose Awareness Day

Today, Teach Resilience joins communities around the world in remembering those whose lives have been lost to overdose and acknowledging the families, friends and communities who carry that loss with them.

Overdose is not simply an individual issue. Trauma, adverse experiences, social connection, stigma and access to support can all play a role in a person’s story.

Understanding those connections helps us respond differently.

Through trauma-informed approaches, we can replace judgement with curiosity, stigma with compassion, and isolation with connection. We can create environments where people feel safer asking for help and where conversations about substance use are grounded in dignity and understanding.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember those we’ve lost and continue working toward communities where compassion and connection come first. 💜
