Four Directions Indigenous Students Centre seeks to enhance the development and well-being of the Queen's University Indigenous Community. Four Directions welcomes and encourages all students to develop an awareness and appreciation of the Indigenous experience in Canada. In keeping with the teachings of the Four Directions, The Centre strives to support individual Indigenous Students in balancing their academic, spiritual, physical, and emotional needs.

Attention Queen's Indigenous Grad students!

Your SAGE Program Assistant Kim is excited to host her first event for you. Join a Coffee Chat from the comfort of your own home on October 29th, at 6pm! You can meet other Indigenous grad students and spend some time chatting, sharing and learning about the program!

Staff update! The 4D team is excited to welcome Sasha Hill (she/her) to our team as our new Departmental Assistant! We are grateful to have such a kind and creative spirit joining us.

"Hi my name is Sasha Hill, I’m Onondaga from Six Nations of the Grand River. My dad’s side of the family is Eel Clan, with my mom’s side of the family coming from a small village across the world from Siberia. I went to Sheridan College for Film and Television, and have 5 years' experience in web design. I love painting, beading, dancing, dogs, and rom coms.

I’m excited to be stepping into the role of Departmental Assistant with 4D. I look forward to meeting you all, and I’m excited to help create a welcoming space for students. I’ll be at the front desk, please come and say hi and I’d be happy to help with any question you have!"

Reading Week is here! Our hours will be a bit different over the next week. No Sunday hours this weekend, and the university is closed on Monday for the statutory holiday. We'll be back to 8:30-4:30 during the week, and then our regular hours resume on Sunday the 18th, with 12:00-6:00.

Your 4D team hopes you have the Reading Week you are seeking - social and fun, quiet and productive, or any combination of. And remember, rest is productive! Take good care and enjoy your week. We'll see those of you heading home on the 19th!

October 4th is National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

In September of 2016, National Inquiry into MIssing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls officially commenced. The inquiry, which took three years, included 24 hearings and engaged 2386 participants, who shared family or personal stories. The end result was a compilation of 231 Calls to Justice for MMIWG2S+

It is 2026 and only TWO have been brought to completion.

It is important to remember our relations that our communities have lost.

In the Round Room at 4D, we will have a Faceless Dolls Display and a copy of the 231 Calls available for viewing, until end of day October 5th.

There are also educational links in the link in our bio, as well as emotional support resources - how to book with our Counsellor, live chats and hotlines.

This week each year is an extra heavy week, do take good care. 4D is here for you!

If you love spooky season, Ness has just the project for you! Join them for 4D's monthly beading circle.
Ness will be here on Sunday, October 4th from 12:00-3:00pm, with this month's beading kit project - jack o lantern keychains 🎃

Whether you are an experienced beader, or want to learn, Ness will be on hand to help you out. If you are already working on your own project, our beading circles are BYOBP- friendly, bring your own beading project!

After the circle, remaining kits will be available for pick up - limited quantities available!
