4D is kicking off the 26-27 academic year with our annual "Sprinkle Week" - a sampling of the types of programs we'll be offering this year.

Tuesday, join Shannon and Kim for Bingo, at 5pm. There'll be great prizes, and lots of snacks!

Wednesday, Jessica and Shannon will be gathering at the Endaayaan-Tkanonsóte Community Room for a crafting event, at 11am!

On Thursday, connect with Elder Betty at 1pm for a build your own smudge kit, paired with teachings about plant medicine. Join Ness at 4pm, for our first drumming circle of the semester. No prior drumming experience necessary!

Friday, we'll bring community together for our annual Welcome Back BBQ. Meet or reconnect with Queen's Indigenous students, faculty and staff welcome!

Attention Indigenous Grad students, meet the wonderful Kim, 4D's SAGE Program Assistant!
Kim will be hosting events and helping build community and networks within the Indigenous grad student community, and is looking very forward to the opportunity to forge connection and a support network.

More about SAGE - an acronym that stands for Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement, SAGE is a peer-led movement that occurs on campuses across Turtle Island!

"Kwe' ! My name is Kim and I'm a member of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation. I grew up in Newfoundland and came to Ontario for about 20 years to work as an engineer.
I’m a first year post-graduate medicine trainee and a resident doctor at Kingston General Hospital. I enjoy walks, triathlon, spending time with family and pets, and riding my three-wheeled motorcycle. I’m looking forward to supporting Indigenous graduate students this year as the SAGE Program Assistant."

Welcome Day! Tomorrow!!!

4D won't be available for general use tomorrow, September 4th, as we'll be hosting our annual orientation event for Indigenous students for the full day. The biggest event of the year for us, we are so excited to welcome our incoming Indigenous students to campus, to our Centre and our team!

We will re-open regular hours on Tuesday September 8th, 8:30am-4:30pm.

QSAS - who are they/what services do they provide?
Whether you have accommodations in place, think you may need some or just have questions, Queen's Student Accessibility Services is here to assist.

Friend of 4D Caroline will be hosting once a month drop-ins, and her first session will be on September 8th, from 1-4pm. Chat in the living room or have a confidential chat in an office space. No appointment necessary!

Pro-tip - Jenna will be here for Arts/Sci academic advising as well, and Sprinkle Week Bingo is in the evening. A great day to hang out for a while!

Attention Arts and Science students! They're baaack!

Jenna Kring, Academic Advisor for Indigenous Arts & Science students, will be beginning their drop-in sessions once again on Mondays from 12-3, but thanks to the long weekend, the first session will be a "First Day Back" edition, on Tuesday September the 8th!

Pencil it in your calendar, and come with your questions or a hello, Jenna will be so happy to see/meet you!

"Hi everyone! My name is Amelia Picard (she/her), and I am a member of the Manitoba Métis Federation and have Red River Métis ancestry. I’m starting my second year of the Health Sciences program. Alongside my interest in healthcare, I have a passion for all things art-related, including dance, music, drawing, and painting. I’m so excited to be helping out with the Ohsahè:ta program this year, and I can’t wait to meet you all!"

The Ohsahè:ta Program is an amazing opportunity for Indigenous students new to campus to earn a financial benefit while connecting to the Centre and all of the resources.

Amelia will be connecting with our Ohsahè:ta students to help them keep on track, schedule meetings with the Advisor and being there to answer questions!

Save the dates!

The talented and wonderful teacher Ness will be helping run programming at 4D again this year! Drumming circles will begin September 10th and happen each Thursday from 4-5pm. Whether you're an experienced drummer or have never been a part of a drumming circle, you are welcome to join, We have extra drums, and rattles!

Monthly themed beading kits will be available for pick up at the beading circles, which you can work on together! Or, BYOBP (bring your own beading project). Ness will be on hand to help new beaders get the hang of techniques.

Shé:kon! My name is Ness Young, and I'm a member of the Mohawk Nation Turtle Clan from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. I'm in my second year in the Master of Public Health program at Queen's. In addition to being an Indigenous Peer Mentor, I have been helping to run beading and drumming at 4D for the past four years.

For those who may not yet be aware, Luke is starting at Carleton University in a few short weeks, to work toward his Master of Public Policy and Administration. His last day is Friday of this week!

If you've been around the Centre in the last few years, you've almost certainly met Luke! It may have been when he was a student, student leader, or most recently as a member of our team. And if you have, you have probably also had thoughtful conversations on any number of wide-ranging topics: from history, to Indigeneity, from pop culture to politics.

His positivity and innate ability to make anyone feel welcome within the walls of 4D have always been prominent.

Luke, while you'll be missed dearly, the team at 4D is incredibly proud of you. Baamaapii!
