Dogs are always welcome at any of Cataraqui Conservation’s properties, including the Cataraqui Trail.

But we ask that your four-legged canine family member be on a leash and remain on the marked trails during their visit.

This is for the safety and consideration for other visitors and the wildlife that lives in the area near trails on the properties. Free-running dogs can be intimidating to other visitors and can also chase and disturb wildlife.

And please pick up after your pooch. There are a number of refuse containers located throughout the property.

Conservation Area Friends Groups: Friends of Lemoine Point, Friends of Mac Johnson Wildlife Area or Friends of the Cataraqui Trail.

Cataraqui Conservation Foundation

Tree Planting: The Friends of Lemoine Point host annual tree planting events and are looking for volunteers to help plant trees at the conservation areas. Watch our event listings for scheduled planting events.

Did you know that removing attached ticks as soon as possible reduces the chance of infection?

If you find an attached tick, follow these instructions to remove it:
1. Use clean, fine-point tweezers to grasp the head as close to the skin as possible and slowly pull straight out. Try not to twist or squeeze the tick. The ticks imbed themselves quite strongly into the skin requiring slow but firm withdrawal to remove them.
2. If the mouth of the tick breaks off and remain in the skin, remove them with the tweezers. If you're unable to remove them easily, leave them alone and let the skin heal.
3. Wash the bite area with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
Do not try to remove the tick by:
• burning it
• smothering it with:
o nail polish
o essential oils
o petroleum jelly
o nail polish remover
This can cause the tick to release its stomach contents, which can be infected, into the area of the bite, increasing the chance of infection.

We love dogs!
We love their friendliness, the cute way they wiggle as they walk, their curiosity and the important role they play as companions to we humans. But it’s important to keep all the visitors to our various conservation properties safe and happy – for both two- and four-legged patrons.

Therefore, we ask that all dogs be on a leash and under control at all times. This is for the safety of your dog and consideration of our visitors and for the wildlife that lives in our conservation areas and the Cataraqui Trail. Free-running dogs can be intimidating to other visitors and can also chase and disturb wildlife. They can also have unpleasant encounters with other dogs or with wildlife such as skunks and porcupines.

Please stoop and scoop and dispose of waste properly.
