Municipal Fire Ban Lifted

The Town of Kirkland Lake is not within a Restricted Fire Zone; therefore, effective immediately, the Municipal Fire Ban for the Town of Kirkland Lake has been lifted.

Residents are reminded that the lifting of the fire ban does not remove the requirements for an Open-Air Burning Permit. All open-air burning must be conducted in accordance with BY-LAW NO. 98-017 and the conditions of a valid Open-Air Burning Permit.

Dry conditions can still allow fires to spread quickly, so we remind everyone to always follow the conditions outlined on their fire permit and practice safe burning.

Before lighting any fire:
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
• Burn only during permitted times and under suitable weather conditions.
• Ensure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Kirkland Lake Fire Services thanks residents for their cooperation during the fire ban. Continued caution and responsible burning will help prevent unnecessary fires and keep our community safe.

Canada Day Safety Message from Kirkland Lake Fire Services

As our community celebrates Canada Day, Kirkland Lake Fire Services reminds residents to celebrate responsibly and keep fire safety a priority.

Fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires when not used properly. Always follow manufacturer instructions, keep fireworks away from buildings, trees, dry grass, and vehicles, and have water or a hose nearby. Never allow children to light fireworks, and never attempt to relight a firework that does not go off.

If you are having a campfire, make sure open-air burning is permitted. Keep fires small, supervised, and fully contained. Never leave a fire unattended. When finished, drown the fire with water, stir the ashes, and repeat until everything is completely cool.

A safe celebration is a successful celebration.

FIRE BAN LIFTED – TOWN OF KIRKLAND LAKE

The fire ban for the Town of Kirkland Lake has been lifted and open-air burning is once again permitted in accordance with municipal bylaws and regulations.

While recent conditions have improved, residents are reminded that fire safety remains everyone’s responsibility. If you plan on having a campfire or conducting any outdoor burning:

• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep a water source or extinguisher nearby
• Burn only clean, dry wood
• Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area
• Be mindful of wind conditions and surrounding vegetation
• Follow all local burning regulations and restrictions

Let’s continue to enjoy the outdoors safely and do our part to prevent unwanted fires.

UPDATE: Fire ban has been lifted

Kirkland Lake Fire Services would like to remind residents that the fire ban issued for The Town of Kirkland Lake remains in effect until further notice.

With the current conditions and the continued risk of fire spread, all open-air burning is still prohibited at this time.

Kirkland Lake Fire Services would like to remind the public that with spring conditions arriving, lakes, rivers, streams, and other waterways are beginning to thaw and become extremely unpredictable. Ice conditions can change rapidly and are not always visible from the surface.

Earlier today, KLFS responded alongside the Ontario Provincial Police and EMS to a call for service involving a person who had entered the water.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Great Outdoor Center for quickly providing an off-road vehicle to assist crews in accessing the patient in difficult terrain. We would also like to thank the Kenogami & District Volunteer Fire Brigade for responding with their off-road vehicle for additional support.

With the proper equipment, coordination, and teamwork between all agencies involved, crews were successful in safely extricating the patient.

Please use extreme caution around all waterways this time of year and avoid unnecessary risks near ice or fast-moving water.
