Conestoga graduate Girish Bhuteja was named a 2026 Open Education Award for Excellence winner by Open Education Global (OEGlobal) in the Student Leader and Champion for Open Education category. The international awards recognize outstanding contributions that advance openness, access and innovation in education.

Bhuteja recently graduated with distinction from Conestoga’s Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours) program. During his studies, he worked with the college’s Open Learning team in Library and Learning Services as an Open Educational Resources (OER) Projects Assistant, holding both part-time and full-time co-op positions with the team.

Student projects from 11 programs across the schools of Engineering & Technology and Applied Computer Science & Information Technology were on display at Tech Showcase to determine the recipients of the college’s Mastercraft Award. Hosted at the Waterloo campus on August 27, the biannual event features best-of-program final-term projects. Mechanical Engineering Technician - Automated Manufacturing student Gavin DeBoer received top honour in Engineering & Technology for a smart, load-sensitive system that improves the performance and safety of heavy-duty trailer operations. Students Saba Berenji, Owen Covach, Sudhan Dahake and Sierra Erb in the Bachelor of Computer Science program were awarded top honour in Applied Computer Science & Information Technology for their project, R.A.T.E., in which they partnered with Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto to develop a training and evaluation platform for fertility clinic technicians.

A new woodworking installation adorns one of the hallways at the Conestoga Skilled Trades Campus. Created as a collaboration between first-year Bachelor of Interior Design students and graduating Woodworking Technology students, the feature wall celebrates Conestoga successes at Skills Ontario. This is the second student installation at the campus at 25 Reuter Drive in Cambridge. The first went up in 2025 to celebrate the college’s Women in Skilled Trades (WIST) initiative.

The Fall 2026 General Awards Application is now open to all full-time students studying in the country and not currently on a co-op work term. Students must submit applications by September 25 to be eligible for this term.

Conestoga welcomed new and returning students to campuses and learning locations for the start of the fall 2026 term, with nearly 2,000 attending Campus Welcome Days. As students begin a new academic year, a range of services, resources and opportunities are available to support their success, from preparing for the start of classes and accessing academic resources to getting involved and building connections within the Conestoga community. To complement the start of the term, Conestoga will share a series of student stories, experiences and advice through the college’s Instagram channel over the first several weeks.

The Mechanical Capstone Showcase presented innovative technical projects developed by students from Conestoga's School of Engineering & Technology. The event also recognized students for academic excellence, innovation, project quality and peer support. Graduating students from the Mechanical Engineering Technology - Robotics and Automation and Mechanical Engineering Technology - Design and Analysis programs, as well as fourth- and third-year Bachelor of Engineering - Mechanical Systems Engineering students, presented their projects at the college’s Cambridge - Fountain Street campus on August 18.

Conestoga’s Waterloo campus (108 University Avenue East) will remain closed on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to an ongoing interruption in electrical service. There will be no access to campus buildings.
