We are here to proclaim love, peace, and the unquestioned value of every person, no matter where they come from. We promote justice through assistance with the refugee claim process.

We accompany through our T.H.R.I.V.E. framework to build bridges that lead to newcomer integration, belonging, and contribution to community life. We advocate for welcoming communities made stronger by tackling barriers to justice and thriving, and engaging people ready for life beyond refuge.

At COMPASS Refugee Centre, we see every day how critical timely and accurate information can be for individuals and families navigating the Canada–U.S. border.

Through our Canada–U.S. Border Rights Clinic, we provide legal information and rights-based guidance to people facing urgent and complex situations.

Recently, a client wrote to us:

“Dear Canada Border Clinic, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you truly and deeply. The information provided came at a time when I needed it the most to enter Canada, and my family and I can’t express how much that meant to us.”

For families facing uncertainty, access to clear and reliable information at the right moment can make all the difference.

Our Canada Border Clinic Coordinator, McIntyre, was delighted to participate as a panelist at a World Day of Justice Fund, alongside other inspiring activists from North America and Europe. Now we are sincerely grateful to Social Justice Fund for their financial support of Canada–U.S. Border Rights Clinic.

The Fund works in solidarity with community organizations to promote human rights and strengthen democracy. These goals closely align with COMPASS mission: equal access to justice and rights for people in vulnerable situations.

This collaboration and support are more than funding. It is a shared commitment to ensuring that no one faces the border alone.

Thank you, our supporters, for solidarity and trust.

Today felt extra special.

Today we have been enCOMPASSed.

We had such a warm and inspiring time during our Pancake Lunch in COMPASS, surrounded by colleagues and friends. The air was filled with a delicious freshly made pancakes, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. And the best part... the pancakes were handmade by Dawn, our Development Manager.

We also gathered for a staff highlights meeting with members of our Canada-U.S. Border Rights Clinic team, all to welcome our new team members and reconnect as one community. It was a great moment to talk about our Work Culture, the values that unite us, and the CCR Better Together Campaign. We are reminded that collaboration and support truly make us stronger.

Grateful for our amazing team and the energy we create together. Stay enCOMPASSed!

Our Story

Since 1987, we have been welcoming people who need help to navigate Canada’s refugee claim process. They come from over 45 different countries. They are fleeing very personal threats against their lives. Having been deemed by Canadian Border Service Agents to be eligible to make a claim, they quickly learn it is a hard and complex process.

That’s where we come in! We are the “go to” organization that:
