CAWA was honoured to attend the launch of the Canadian Arab Pulse Report at the Ontario Legislature, hosted by the Canadian Arab Institute.

The report offers a first-of-its-kind portrait of Canadian Arabs, highlighting our community’s contributions, experiences, priorities, and aspirations. It was inspiring to see community leaders, partners, and Members of Provincial Parliament come together for meaningful conversations about representation, engagement, and the future of our communities.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Canadian Arab Institute for the invitation and leadership in bringing this important initiative forward. We also thank MPP Adil Shamji for sponsoring the event, and MPPs Sheref Sabawy, Aislinn Clancy, and Alexa Gilmour for their support and remarks recognizing the contributions of Canadian Arabs across Ontario.

Together, we continue to build stronger, more connected, and more engaged communities.

Job Opportunity: Summer Settlement Worker (Student Position)
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: August 15th, 2026
Hours: 30 hours per week

We are looking for an empathetic, organized, and community-minded summer student to join our team as a Settlement Worker. In this role, you will provide crucial, front-line support, offering individualized guidance, practical assistance, and warm community connections to help newcomers thrive.

Requirement: Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment (in line with summer student program guidelines).

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will act as a vital bridge between newcomers and their new community. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Assessment & Planning: Conduct confidential intake and needs assessments to identify priorities like housing, education, healthcare, and employment. Develop customized settlement plans and provide supportive case management.
- Navigation & Form Support: Guide clients through Canadian systems, helping them fill out forms and access crucial resources (e.g., childcare, language classes, school registration, income assistance, and healthcare).
- Orientation & Workshops: Deliver one-on-one info sessions and facilitate group workshops on essential topics like employment readiness, financial literacy, and daily living in Canada.
- Advocacy & Crisis Referrals: Advocate for clients to remove systemic barriers to services. Identify urgent safety or mental health needs and coordinate swift referrals to specialized crisis centers, shelters, or health agencies.
- Community & Outreach: Build strong partnerships with local agencies, participate in community events, and assist with outreach to connect with hard-to-reach newcomer groups.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate, highly confidential case notes and records in compliance with organizational and funder standards.

Qualifications & Core Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a deep commitment to culturally responsive, barrier-free service.
- Excellent communication skills (multilingual assets are highly valued when working with diverse newcomer populations).
- Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a firm understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and local agencies.

This year, we proudly celebrated both Arab Heritage Month and CAWA’s 10 Year Anniversary at our Fundraising Dinner, bringing together community members, elected officials, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters for a night filled with culture, connection, and purpose.

From the beautiful stories shared in our Tell Me About Your Country documentary, to the inspiring remarks from Dr. Lamese Al Ethari, the powerful community stories shared by Mirella Khalill and Sherene Salah, the traditional Dabke performance by the Levant Group, authentic Arabic cuisine, henna, and meaningful conversations, the evening was a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and rich heritage of Arab communities.

Most importantly, we celebrated a decade of empowering Arab women and families through advocacy, education, community-building, and support services. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, and helped make this special evening possible.
