Where do you keep your curbside waste between your pick-up days?

There is a big consideration for storing your curbside waste bins between collection days: keep it in a way that prevents animals from accessing it.

That can mean putting it in a garage, in a shed, or an enclosed storage bin. Not securing your bins mean animals and birds can easily get to it and that can mean a big mess.

Did you know: Not properly securing your waste could result in daily fines.

Thanks for keeping your curbside waste secure!

We are making it easier to apply for a business licence.

A new Business Licence and Business Change Form are now available. Updates to the application form includes clearer business category choices, better approval checklists to speed up processing, and a new option to be included in an upcoming business directory that will be hosted on the District website.

The Business Change Form allows businesses to update information about their business except change in ownership.

These new forms are the first of a series of improvements to the licencing process.

Check out the new forms and get more details about business licences on our website here: https://www.kitimat.ca/municipal-office/business-licence-application

We're back with more about the Kitimat Emergency Program!

The KEP helps strategize on actions to support during emergencies and to support health and wellbeing.

That includes for wildfires!

The Program has a plan for interface fires, which means a wildffire that threatens structures and developments. Depending on the fire's severity it also may work together with the community evacuation plan.

Evacuation routes are pre-identified, and if it ever came to that we would share information through the Voyent Alert system (www.kitimat.ca/alerts), our website, and social media, plus through news outlets as well.

Here's how you can help be prepared and in the know:

- Prepare your 72-hour kits and grab-n-go bags | https://www.kitimat.ca/safety-prevention/emergency-preparedness
- Read the simplified, public evacuation plan on our website. | https://www.kitimat.ca/safety-prevention/responding-to-hazards
