Please be advised that TC Energy will be shutting in their Irish Creek pipeline system for maintenance until June 14th. This system supplies natural gas to the NW portion of the County. The included map shows the affected area.
The County Gas Utility is connecting alternate sources to maintain gas supply, so there will be no planned interruption of gas service to any of our customers.

Each Wednesday we are going to be shining the light on w**ds and pests to be on the look out for in the County.

This week's trouble maker is toadflax.

Toadflax has bright yellow flowers with an orange center that look similar to snapdragons. It has narrow, light green leaves and can grow up to 1 metre (3 feet) tall. It blooms from May through October.
As a perennial w**d, it comes back year after year and can be difficult to control once established. It spreads through an extensive root system (rhizomes), allowing it to form large patches up to 2 metres across or more.
If you spot toadflax on your farm or acreage, call the Agriculture and Environment department at 780-846-2244.
Early identification and management are important to prevent it from spreading.

The County of Vermilion River Gas Utility is currently working with industry partners to maintain natural gas service during TC Energy’s scheduled Irish Creek Pipeline maintenance outage.

Through a partnership with Canadian Natural Resources using temporary compression equipment, the County is able to utilize CNRL gas, which is stranded during the outage, to serve our customers. This lowers emissions and costs by reducing flaring of stranded gas and trucking of liquefied natural gas, and helps ensure uninterrupted service to our residential, agricultural, oil/gas, and power generation customers.

This project demonstrates how collaboration and innovative solutions can reduce environmental impacts while maintaining the safe, reliable natural gas service our customers depend on every day.

We would like to thank our partners at Canadian Natural Resources for their assistance and support throughout this project.
