TONIGHT!! Patrons ages 16+ can join us for bad art night, a chill event where you can set your creativity free without fear of judgement! Art supplies and prompts will be provided, but feel free to bring your favourite tools & go off script! Anyone can make art, but if the stakes feel too high, why not make it ‘bad’ on purpose?

This week's comes from the January 27th, 1982 Aurora with scenes from the blizzard of '82! The storm caused a mass evacuation from the Harrie Lake Subdivision and damage to many vehicles and buildings. One caption in the article reads as follows:

"This scene was the rule rather than the exception last week as residents started to clean up following Monday's blizzard which caught residents completely by surprise. Within hours hundreds of motor vehicles became bogged down in heavy drifts or simply cut out when freezing temperatures and blinding snow clogged various parts of the mechanisms. For the next two or three days, tow trucks were busy plucking vehicles from their snowy beds. Near zero visibility resulted in numerous accidents and abandoned vehicles hampered Monday night's evacuation of the Harrie Lake Subdivision."

So, do you remember the big storm of '82? Tell us about your experience in the comments below!
And as always, for more local history come visit us at the library! ❄❄❄

And our winner is Raven, for this very spooky story!

"During the blizzard, my husband called from outside the cabin, begging me to unlock the door before he froze to death. I reached for the handle just as his voice whispered from our bedroom, “Don't let him in.” "

Thank you to everyone who participated, we greatly enjoyed reading all of your two sentence scary stories! Happy Spooky Season everybody!! 🎃🎃🎃

Want to win this book? Write us your best two sentence scare story below! The winner will be chosen on the 16th of October! Not sure what to write? Here's an example from one of our librarians:

"I could always tell when it was my mother coming up over the steps, I’d hide under my quilt and pretend to be fast asleep. She never did stop coming to check up on me, not even after she died."

Happy writing, and stay spooky! 🎃
