đźš’ Six members of the City of Lacombe Fire Department proudly participated in the annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge in Calgary joining firefighters from across the region in support of a great cause.

The Stair Climb is a physically demanding event that challenges participants to climb hundreds of stairs to a total height of 57 stories, while wearing firefighting gear, symbolizing the dedication, resilience, and commitment required in the fire service every day.

We are proud of our members for representing the City of Lacombe and demonstrating their commitment to fitness, teamwork, and community involvement.

Events like these not only promote firefighter wellness but also help raise awareness and support for important charitable initiatives.

Congratulations to all participants on a job well done! Thank you for your continued dedication to serving our community.

Over the past six days, two members from our Public Works Department and two members from the Fire Department completed the International Academy for Professional Driving Instructors Course that will enable them to deliver defensive driving education to City of Lacombe staff.

Having access to a safe and suitable training location was essential to the success of this course, and we greatly appreciate the support and partnership from Lacombe Pentecostal Church for generously allowing the City of Lacombe and the City of Lacombe Fire Department to utilize their parking lot.

Investing in training helps keep our employees safe on the road and strengthens our commitment to providing quality service to our community.

Thank you for helping make this valuable training opportunity possible!

🌲🔥 Tuesday Training – Chainsaw Skills 🔥🌲

This past Tuesday, crews spent the day honing our chainsaw skills with a focus on proper tree felling techniques. Training covered assessing tree lean, identifying hazards, planning escape routes, and executing correct notch and back cuts for a safe and controlled fall.

These skills are essential for wildland firefighting operations, where safe and efficient saw work plays a key role in line construction and hazard mitigation. Precision and situational awareness are critical to keeping crews safe on the fire line.
Strong work by everyone involved—continuing to build skills, confidence, and teamwork every time we train.

We’re proud to share that two of our Chief Officers from City of Lacombe recently attended the very first Incident Command Mayday Management Workshop presented by AOYS Fire Training

This valuable workshop focused on strengthening command-level decision making, firefighter accountability, and effective mayday management during high-risk emergency incidents. Continuous training like this helps ensure our officers are prepared to lead safely and effectively when seconds matter most.
A big thank you to AOYS for putting on this excellent program and helping advance firefighter safety and incident command excellence.

đźš’ Big progress at The City of Lacombe Fire Training Facility today! đźš’

We were excited to welcome Stingel Contracting onsite as they placed the three sea cans that will form a key part of our training infrastructure. This is an important milestone as we continue building a facility that supports realistic, hands-on training for our members.

A big thank you to Stingel Contracting for their professionalism and excellent work in getting these units positioned safely and efficiently. We’re looking forward to the next phases as everything starts to come together!

Stay tuned for more updates as the project moves forward. 💪🔥

🔥 Training Update – Flash Can in Action 🔥

Over the past month, our members at the City of Lacombe Fire Department have had the opportunity to train with our new flash can, and the value of this training has been huge.

These sessions have given our firefighters the chance to slow things down and really see what fire behavior looks like in a controlled setting. By watching how smoke, heat, and fire change, our members are building stronger situational awareness—learning how to read what’s happening before stepping into a real incident.

Training like this helps our crews make better decisions on the fireground and, most importantly, go home safe at the end of the day. We’re proud of the effort our members are putting in and excited to continue building skills that make our department safer and stronger. 🚒🔥

The City of Lacombe Fire Department is asking everyone to take a few simple precautions to help keep our community safe.

🚬 Cigarette Disposal
Never toss cigarette butts out vehicle windows or onto the ground. Even a small ember can ignite dry grass in seconds. Always fully extinguish and dispose of them properly.

🔥 Backyard Burning
Before lighting any backyard fire, make sure you are following local bylaws and conditions. Never leave fires unattended, keep them small and manageable, and always have a water source nearby. Using a mesh screen or spark guard over your fire pit helps prevent embers from escaping and starting unintended fires.

đźš› Trailer Safety Chains
If you’re hauling trailers, take a moment to check your safety chains. Chains dragging on the pavement can create sparks, which can quickly ignite grass along roadways.

Wildfires can start fast — but they’re also highly preventable.
Let’s all do our part to protect our community, our neighbors, and our emergency responders this season.

Stay safe, Lacombe. ❤️

The City of Lacombe Fire Department would like to extend our deepest condolences and unwavering support to our brothers and sisters with Drayton Valley/Brazeau County Fire Services, Station #2 in Breton, following the tragic structure fire this past week.

On April 16th, crews responded to a devastating residential fire near the Village of Breton that claimed the lives of two young children. Despite the rapid response and the best efforts of first responders, the outcome is one that weighs heavily on all involved.
Incidents like this are a stark reminder of the realities our fire service members face the calls that stay with you long after the tones go silent.

To the members of Station #2, and all agencies who responded: we stand with you. Your dedication, professionalism, and courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances do not go unnoticed.

To the family and community affected by this tragedy, our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time.

Stay strong, stay connected, and lean on one another.

From your fire family in Lacombe, we are with you.
