Our Lacombe Heritage Resources Committee celebrated the 17th property in Lacombe to be granted the Municipal Historic Resource designation of the Owen Residence located just north of the St. Stephan's Catholic Church on 53rd Street.

This home has been kept nearly intact and has been updated with new exterior colors etc, while being cognizant of keeping the historic features.

It is always exciting to see a residential or commercial property receive the Municipal Historic Resource designation. If you are considering a designation for your property feel free to contact the committee through city hall or my direct message.

The Lacombe Heritage Resources Committee is very pleased to see some properties with the Municipal Historic Resource designation complete conservation work for their properties. As part of the benefit of designation, property owners have the ability to apply for grant funding to complete approved conservation work from the City of Lacombe through the Heritage Resources Committee.

The Stewart Residence located on the north side of 50th avenue near 58th Street has recently had approval for grant funding for the work completed on their front verandah. It was wonderful to see that nearly identical material species and type has been used to restore the flooring on this verandah from the original. The work was done in a skillful manner that mimicked the prior installation.

It is so exciting for the City of Lacombe Heritage Resources Committee to see a one of our historic properties completing a conservation project on their designated home. The veranda flooring on the Stewart Residence needed replacing to maintain a suitable and safe area to enjoy.

As part of the grant funding available for Municipal Historic Resource designated properties, this homeowner is able to match the original flooring material with new. It looks so good!

This is one of the distinct advantages of designating a historic heritage home or building. A designated property here in Lacombe will also be able to access grant funding from the province of Alberta for conservation work.
