The diversity and beauty of the old growth temperate rainforest needs full protection. This was October 2020 at River and Ridge blockade camps. We didn't know what was ahead of us in the coming years of blockading. The fight to save the old growth continues.

Ancientcoast.bc I’ve been watching old-growth logging on Vancouver Island under a system that’s still supposed to weigh ecological value. Even then, I’ve watched intact old-growth management areas amended, Roosevelt Elk habitat cut through, and entire mountain ranges stripped down to whatever’s too steep to touch.
Now the province wants to pilot something called the Working Forest Model in the already ravaged Campbell River area. It locks land into guaranteed logging and strips away the case-by-case review that’s the only thing that’s ever slowed any of this down.
It may seem bad now, but if this is what happens under a system intended to protect some of what’s left, an explicitly profit-first system with none of those checks will be so much worse.
There’s a provincial election in weeks. Ask every local candidate where they stand on old-growth logging and this proposal specifically. If protecting old-growth matters to you, the are the party that is standing up for ancient forests.

‼️ 𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝟏𝟐 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 ‼️

Over the past year Bill Jones and many Old Growth conservation activists have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the state of BC's Ancient Temperate Rainforests and also to challenge the overreach and stronghold that industry has on these last remaining endangered ecosystems.

Bill has been in court many times to challenge the injunction that criminalizes peaceful protest, and to address the many tactics of industry that have served to lock him and also the general public out of these forests. This includes work to challenge that many locked gates that have been installed around the Walbran Valley, locking people out of recreation areas that have always been accessible to citizens.

Most recently, industry applied for a PERMANENT injunction in the area but Bill successfully stopped this asking for only a 1 year extension, they were given 18 months.

All of this work has been expensive, and Bill has also been using this fund to support those who were arrested trying to protect the old growth.
Activists who were arrested in the Walbran in 2025 continue to have court appearances. There are 2 trials set for early October and 3 more sentencing hearings. these folks are working with great lawyers who are working at reduced rates, but the fund is about $35,000 short in terms of seeing them through.

Please share this with your amazing networks, these folks have already made many sacrifices in an effort to see climate and environmental justice, let's help them walk away without financial debt.

🚨We all need to show up.

Our government pretends they don’t hear us. They don’t see us.
Our government uses division.
Our government prioritizes the wealth of a few at the cost of everything else.

The only way through this is to stand united, visible, and loud. So loud it can’t be ignored. So that everyone’s voice is heard.

🚨 Ancient forests are HUMANITY'S NATURAL HERITAGE - We can stop old growth logging in BC, but to do that the province must face MASSSIVE domestic and international public pressure. BC's government, led by is facilitating the loss of ancient forests that took countless generations to grow and will never grow back once they are gone.The US consumes 60% of BC's lumber, with BC's oldest trees being turned into shingles and cedar siding for saunas, decking, and other luxury goods. If the US market ditches cedar exported from BC, the government will have to take notice.TAKE ACTION CALL RAVI PARMAR (250-387-6240) - BC's Minister of Forests: Tell him to STOP approving old growth logging.MEET with your MLA to demand legislation to protect old growth forests.
