Found an interesting item in my collection. Not sure it it is another type of .303 blank or intended for another use in a .303 rifle.
Same dimensions of a .303 shell but steel instead of brass.
Photos comparing to a .303 blank and one in the chamber of a cut away .303 training rifle.

Was asked if .22 was the only Rimfire Cartridge made.
Here is a sample of some of the earlier Rimfire Cartridges, yes, all Rimfire but not all .22 caliber.

Was ask how long a .22 caliber rimfire cartridge was? Had to ask which .22 caliber were they asking about as there was more than one.
I snuck in a 17 HMR (4th from the right) to show a comparison.

Just back from Galiano Island where I had the pleasure to present the Fi****ms Safety Course to a great group of people. Their hospitality was outstanding. Thank you for the invite.
Next time I will have to bring my shotgun and take you up on the offer to shoot some trap.

I am so proud of my self. So far I have been able to hold onto one of my New Years resolutions.
That was the one of "Not to buy any more guns this year" 😁

I have been receiving calls and emails from people who have received an e-mail from the RCMP and are uncertain as to what it means..

The email is being sent to anyone who has a fi****ms license, whether you own one of these fi****ms or not, to advise you about the changes the Government made on Dec 05th, making another 325 fi****ms prohibited.

Short and sweet, you do not have to do anything right now but you cannot buy, sell, trade or take any of the listed fi****ms to the range for any reason. Just ensure that they are stored properly and legally as per their previous classification.

There is an Amnesty Order, expiring October 30, 2025, which protects owners who were in legal possession of one or more of these newly prohibited fi****ms. The Amnesty Order allows individuals the time to come into compliance with the law.

There is talk about a buy back program but not much information is available regarding this as to what, when or how they are going to do this or how much they may offer to buy back these fi****ms.
Your other options are either to have your fi****ms deactivated by a licensed fi****ms business certified in deactivation or Legally export your firearm.

I have been ask about the latest rules regarding the prohibition of another 324 fi****ms. Here is the short version

Liberals introduce ban on 324 new fi****ms in addition to original 1500+ banned by 2020 OIC
The result of the Public Safety press conference. Quotes are directly from Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc:
324 newly prohibited fi****ms will be added to 1500+ list from 2020 OIC. No list has been made publicly available yet, but it was confirmed that the SKS is not included.
Pilot program of Phase 1 of the "assault style fi****ms compensation program" for businesses "will begin within days". "The program will be open for all businesses in the coming days."
Consideration is being given to "donating" some confiscated fi****ms to Ukraine for war effort in order to "support the fight for democracy in Ukraine."
Amnesty remains in place until October 30th, 2025 (after next Federal election)
New regulations coming next Friday (Dec 13) that will "ensure no firearm can come into Canada or be sold in Canada without first being approved by the RCMP."
New regulations on "Red and Yellow flag laws early this spring"
New regulations on "large capacity magazines no later than March" (2025)
Creation of a "panel of experts to support the RCMP". The panel will look at the classification of fi****ms that are not a part of the models that are currently prohibited. This panel will share their recommendations "at the beginning of next year". "We will take additional measures in order to further restrict access to those fi****ms."

Note: The SKS is not on the list but there was mention that another list may be coming in February or March of 2025 that includes the SKS

Had a great time at the two day gun show and very happy to meet several previous students who stopped by to say "Hello". Even snuck away from my table to help one find, and then get a deal, on his first shotgun.

Trying a new photo to show difference between Center fire and Rimfire Cartridges.
With the two Centerfire cartridge's on the left, you can see the primer flash hole inside in the center of the top cartridge. The bottom cartridge shows where the firing pin struck the primer in the "center" of the base of the fired cartridge.
With the two rimfire cartridge's on the right, you can see where the firing pin hit the "rim" of the bottom cartridge.
You can also see the "green" priming compound around the inside of the "rim" of the top unfired Rimfire cartridge.

Had a "Misfire" at the range today. Took the .22 rimfire cartridge apart to examine why. Compared to an unfired .22 rimfire that was taken apart for comparison.
No Primer Compound apparently added when the factory loaded the cartridge.
The "Misfire" cartridge on the left is clean inside while with the "Unfired" one on the right, you can see the Priming Compound (green) around the rim in the base of the cartridge. Interesting.
