From the media release:
The City of Langford is thrilled to announce that it has received a Silver Award from the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) in the category of Excellence in Policy Planning for its new Official Community Plan (OCP). The 2026 award recipients were recognized on June 4, 2026, at the PIBC Annual Conference Gala in Penticton. This recognition follows the OCP being named as a National Finalist in the Canadian Institute of Planners Awards for Planning Excellence.
The PIBC Awards Program celebrates the best professional planning work across British Columbia and the Yukon, recognizing outstanding policies, plans, projects, and research. It is a significant honour within the planning profession, representing a major boost for the City’s provincial and national planning reputation. The Silver Award designates Langford’s OCP as one of the top projects in its category and a leading example of cutting-edge and visionary planning work.
“The City of Langford is honoured to receive such recognition from the Planning Institute of British Columbia for our new Official Community Plan,” said Scott Goodmanson, Mayor of Langford. This Plan marks a significant milestone for our city, and serves as a powerful guide for the community, supporting high-quality growth, smart land use decisions, and expanded transportation choices for residents.”
Adopted in 2025 following extensive public engagement, Langford’s Official Community Plan represents transformative, action-oriented planning. It signals a shift in both vision and culture, grounded in the community’s long-term goals and aspirations. The Plan brings together community values with a
comprehensive approach to urban health, extending beyond traditional measures to include climate action, housing and affordability, social equity, social connection, and economic resilience. It also aligns with regional and provincial priorities and supports coordinated, long-term investment to guide growth.
The City would like to thank the thousands of community members whose voices helped shape the Plan.
This is our shared success, and we’re excited to take the next first steps of implementation together.
