The Fernridge Nature Park is moving ahead nicely with the hills now in place. It is great to see the sports court going ahead behind Hall 5 also. This area will be a wonderful place for people to enjoy and see nature being preserved along side a free recreational asset and incredible fire hall.

Well I have to respond to a post by Councillor Barb Martens. In it she is claiming first that she is responsible for the RCMP improvements and then that I am claiming the same and that is not true. This is how the improvements occurred. Councillor Martens (then a member of Contract With Langley, CWL) and I were on a tour of the detachment. During this tour the gym at that time was shown to us and I commented " This is garbage, we have better gyms in fire halls for only 4 members". We then continued outside and it was then that I pointed to the empty space on the second floor and asked Inspector Wade to see if we could fill that in and if the building will structurally support it. Last it was asked why there was no fencing for the parking lot.

As a result of these questions we found out that it is a requirement of the RCMP that their parking lots are to be fenced and that the building was originally built to take a third floor but due to changes in the BC Building Code, this was no longer and option. We did find out that the second floor could close in the space for a wellness centre.

The Team (CWL) then discussed this and decided to fund renovating the detachment including internal security, the wellness centre and parking lot. It was discussed that Cllr Martens should move this on behalf of the CWL with myself seconding it as an emergency service provider also.

I claim no single credit for the improvements to the detachment but know that it was a CWL infrastructure improvement that was recognized and followed thru on.

The signs that were not in compliance with the by-law have been relocated to correct that. No excuses for the mistake. Fixed now but calling firefighters stupid is inexcusable. I am fair game but they are not, they risk their lives, raise tens of thousands of dollars for charities, coach teams, deal with PTSI and cancers, and everything they do off duty benefits the community. Even when people say crap about them, they will professionally help everyone even those that disrespect them.
